Last month, Kai Trump, the eldest grandchild of President Donald Trump and daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, competed in one of South Florida’s top junior golf tournaments. She and classmate Charlie Woods, son of golf legend Tiger Woods, played the second and final round of the 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship at Tequesta Country Club.
Named after golf’s most decorated major champion, the Nicklaus Junior is an annual tournament organized by the South Florida PGA and the Palm Beach County Golf Association. The two-day competition was split between the Bear’s Club in Jupiter and the Tequesta Country Club. Previous winners include Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger.
Interestingly, the date of her next golf tournament marks the one-year anniversary of her debut in the spotlight: At this time last year, Kai Trump was preparing for her speech about then-former president Donald Trump.
His last campaign for president in 2016 was filled with frequent appearances and speeches from his children, who have been some of the most vocal supporters of his campaigns for president.
But on the third day of the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Donald Trump’s oldest granddaughter became the first of his grandchildren to talk about what it’s like to have one of the most famous people in the world as a grandfather.
In her speech, Kai Trump mostly focused on the side of Trump that no one sees, calling him a “normal grandpa,” which quickly went viral: “I’m speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see,” she had said. “To me, he’s just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school.”

The tournament at Lost City Golf Club, 301 Orange Tree Drive, Atlantis, Florida, has a double tee start at 8 a.m. ET Wednesday and Thursday, July 16 and 17, 2025, with an entry fee of $130. It’s open to participants ages 11 to 18. Deadline to enter? 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday, July 10, 2025. The match can have 84 players. Spectator carts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for $25, according to the South Florida PGA Junior Tour site.
How did Kai Trump, Charlie Woods fare in final round of 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship?
Kai Trump shot 74 (3-over) to finish the tournament 17-over and tied for 19th in a field of 32 golfers. Jupiter’s Reese McMillan defeated Lake Worth’s Bella Simões in a playoff to win the girls competition at 2-over for the tournament.
Trump, who entered the final round tied for 28th after shooting an 86 on Monday at the Bear’s Club, enjoyed a much better day at the Tequesta Country Club. She played the front nine at 1-under, which was the best front nine of any girls player in the final round.
For those wondering, Charlie Woods shot 69 (2-under) to finish the tournament even-par and sixth place in a field of 122 golfers. He finished four shots back of Port St. Lucie’s Jeremy Hsu, who won the tournament at 4-under.
Woods, who entered the day tied for 12th and four shots back of the leaders, rallied on the front nine, carding an eagle on the par-4 No. 2 and pulling within a shot of the lead with eight holes to play. He double bogeyed the par-5 No. 12 to drop off the lead pace.

Kai Trump shares her grandfather’s love of golf. She plays competitively and in August 2024, announced her commitment to stay in Florida for college and play golf at the University of Miami after she graduates from the Benjamin School in Palm Beach County, Florida.
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami,” Kai wrote in an August 18, 2024, Instagram post. “I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don, for always supporting me through my journey. I would also like to thank my great team for getting me to this point. I would like to thank my grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support… I am super excited to be a cane and represent the University of Miami. Gooo Canes!”
And in February 2025, Kai Trump became the highest-valued player in girls’ high school golf, after announcing her first lucrative endorsement deal with big-name golf equipment company TaylorMade.
The exact terms of Kai Trump’s deal with TaylorMade were not disclosed, but there is some information about her name, image and likeness valuation. She also has another NIL endorsement, in addition to the February golf equipment deal that propelled her valuation to more than $1 million.
“Golf has always been a massive part of my life and is my biggest passion. I always aspire to be a leader and a positive figure on and off the golf course,” Kai Trump’s SportsRecruits biography says.
As of July 9, a week before the Srixon Medalist Tour event at Lost City Golf Club in Atlantis, Florida, Kai Trump was ranked 532 in the AJGA girls rankings. On June 26, Kai Trump was ranked 530 in the AJGA.
On June 10, Charlie Woods was ranked No. 14 in the AJGA boys rankings, more than 595 spots better than his previous ranking of No. 609. On June 26, he was ranked No. 19 in AJGA. As of July 9, Charlie Woods ranked No. 18.
