Mr. Green chipped it to here. He’s only played one round. Sat out all of yesterday. Unusual for a pick. Yeah, sure is. But as Diggy said earlier, European picks have earned six points. American picks only one. Here’s how it looks. It’s the final day singles. Europe up in four, the US up in three. Two matches still to begin. Pter and Garcia two up in the European side. Webb Simpson two up on the American side. Solid start against Phil Mickelson. This is to go two up. He knocks it in. Match number nine and Molinari wins two of the first three holes against Phil Mickelson. Franchesco Molinari at five up early on in his match against Phil Mickelson. And even further ahead now, three up after five for Franchesco Molinari on course to be the first European ever to win five out of five. Now Phil Mickelson. He’s three down after six. But this to win one back against Franchesco Molinari. Come on baby. Molinari with a power pack to come but he’s not going to get a chance to play it. Well that’ll give Phil Nicholson a bit of a lift. Back to only two down. There’s a lot of red at the top of that board and Thomas will certainly want Maroy and if possible Ram to contribute a little bit of blue. You don’t want to lose the first five. There’s a lot of blue lower down. But as we said, momentum is everything and if the US can win say four of those top five, it’ll be a very different scoreboard. Big mistake for Simpson. Can Rose take advantage? Meanwhile, Mickelson to half the seventh. He’s just got one back at six. And it’s the fourth drop chop for full on seven holes. You just get the feel that this was just one rider cup too far for Phil. This is our open champion. He’s one up. Just second to 12. Mickelson’s been in the rough and has only moved at 10 yards in front of him. So, an unbelievable chance here from Molinari to go two up. Oh, and I think he might take it. He’s just like a metronome. Nothing changes in the swing. It’s just Tony Johnson hinting there at Johnson’s third shot now. Mickelson. He’s in trouble. He’s already one down. This is his third shot. And Molinar is close. That’s a great shot from where he was out of that rock. Love that for par. Great shot from Phil. Now Molinari to go two up. Six to play. Left to right. No, he’s missed it. Left. Mickelson still with 12 ft 10 12 ft for the half. Mickelson for the half. What a shot that was at the rough. To no avail. So, the open champion there’s two up and the former open champion. There’s the scoreboard. The final day singles already four matches over. Lost and won. Three of them going to the US. One half point in the second. And Europe certainly need those middle matches to stay blue. Here’s Molinari. Two off on Nicholson. This is his third shot. Not too bad. Open champion just tickling her up there to 5 ft. Off the fringe. Knocked it across the green to here. Fourth shot needs to put the brakes on. He’s actually done quite well to hang in there. That’s the win. Took a three up, four to play. Yes, the open champion. Three up, four to play. Stenson five up, six to play. Bulls are one up, one to play. We need two points. It’s getting close. And Francesco Molinari is within touching distance of being the first European ever to win five out of five. 12 9 and 1/2. Europe need two points and at the moment they’re up in four of the remaining matches. The US up and only one. Patrick Reed two up until Hatton. The bottom match is all square. Back to the 15th T and Franchesco Molinari. Three up four to play. Just okay. Just okay. Back to 15t Nicholson. Just do the iron. Think he likes that one. Yep. Just avoid all the divots. Perfect. Frankie Molinari. Decent lie. Tough angle though for that bin. Get exactly what they have to do. Fat part of the game. Dead ben. One point required. This is a birdie putt. Nicholson’s obvious nearer the hole in him. Oh, Phil has this one to whittle away. The three down lead of Molinari. It fits a lefty’s eye very nicely downhill. Just a little right to left. Excuse me, left to right. Just starts it outside the hole. You start it a whole ball outside the hole, it’ll stay out there. Molinari three ahead with three to play guaranteed half a point. Stenson five ahead five to play gu but they can give them it because they can this has come up before they can have a heart attack and not finish the round but it’s looking pretty good Diggy. It was looking dodgy for Europe, but oh my goodness, have they come through just fantastic now on 16 dorm tree up. Who’s going to win the point? You would have to think it’s going to be Molinari 163 standing on the elevated tee. Breeze mostly in the face from the left. He’s got to be nervous. All that water short. Must be a wonderful thing to have a swim like that. It just repeats time and time and time again. Pressure is on Phil. He knows he needs to win the last three. You have to think of Molenar’s T-shot. He’s going to be the one to hold the winning butt to bring the Ryder Cup back to Europe. How fitting. Leading the race to Dubai, winning the open. An amazing year if he can hold the winning putt for the RDER Cup. And that does it right there. It’s over. Mickelson conceds. And now it is official. Europe have won back the lighter cup. No one has ever won a major and all five matches in the lighter cup. Franchesco Molinari has done it for Europe. That was his first mistake of the day. Jumping out the crowd. Well, I said it right at the very start of the program. Whatever would Sam Ryder have made of this. Lovely to see Jim Furick running up the hill there to congratulate European captain Thomas Bjorn. There it is. Very nice. He’s a gentleman. Oh, with what an unbelievable afternoon. Europe started off so confidently for an hour, maybe longer than an hour. America was straight back. There was a lot of red in that leaderboard and suddenly the result looked and reeled out. But what a finish by Thomas Bjorn’s Europeans. you. you. Franchesco, we’ve been here before at Madina. Everything you’ve achieved in your career, you can hardly even hear yourself think right now. No. What does this moment mean to you? So much. So much. More than majors, more than anything. And you know, it’s hard not to get emotional when you when you think about the other players, vice captains, Thomas, the wives, you know, it’s been an incredible week. Obviously, they had probably the strongest team ever and uh we were just so good. So good. It’s unreal. How do you stay so calm? How have you stayed so calm to produce what has been an unbelievable performance personally going five for five in this rider car? Yeah, I just try to do things well and you know be professional and obviously I had an amazing partner in Tommy, you know, never felt like I had a rookie playing alongside me. It’s been amazing. And today it was just hard to get the energies. You know, it’s been a long week playing five matches, but uh you know, again, I I stepped it up when I had to and you know, the part 14 was great and just amazing. We talked so much about the team spirit in the European side, but just how together has has this rider come here in 2018. Sorry, we talked so much about the European team spirit, but how magical how together has this European side been this year? It’s it’s been the the best I’ve been a part of. You know, I said it I said it at the beginning of the week. They was definitely the most talented. I think we we jelled as well as ever and just incredible. Every single one of the players was doing the right things, having the right attitude. There was want to ask a word about your captain who’s led this team brilliantly. What has Thomas been like to play for in 2018? The captain has been incredible. The best put us in the best conditions possible to play our best golf. This is the result. I’ll let you go and celebrate. Very, very, very well done. Thank you. To watch another RDER Cup video, click here and subscribe here.
