all right Michael all right you need a little help yes sir a lot tell me about your game oh it’s well I’ve been shooting in the ’90s pretty much my whole life and uh never had a lesson so uh seriously I’m your first lesson I’m honored I’m HED you are uh I’m honored how long have you played uh since basically After High School oh my gosh good for you good for you and and you you love the game I do I do especially living out here in lovely Scotsdale how can you not so your uh your miss your big Miss where does that go and is it us driver up and to the right up and to the right it’s always been like that yep wow okay well first off let me start off with a couple little things a explanation of why you hit that shot that’s a slice okay um some people call it a push some people call it a fade other people like affectionally refer to it as their power fade okay but when a instructor looks at that he sees a slice okay and I always say the road to G gol goes through a hook not a slice so the first thing we want to do is get that ball to curve from right to left at least give you that ability okay MH when you slice a ball this is important the reason you slice a ball is because the club face is open relative to the path of the Swing so what that means means is is if you were swinging straight through this way let’s you know I’m going straight to my target wherever it is out there straight through here and the club face is open any amount to the right of that path M then that’s going to cause a slice another explanation would be if I swing the club across the ball to the left okay I swing across to the left let’s say I swing two degrees to the left if I swing two degrees to the left and my club face points one degre to the left left what that means is is that the club face is one degree open to the path of the Swing Ball’s going to slice every single time so generally speaking what we have to do is we have to get the club face more square at impact and usually we have to get the path going a little bit more to the right and those shots that I just saw your path wasn’t too bad but the club face is not squaring itself up okay and that’s that’s the number one thing that you got get you got to get this face Square to the path of the Swing okay so I want to show you a couple things I I I can usually do it in one ball okay but we’re going to take a few practice swings first okay so go ahead go ahead and set up to it okay hey let me just show you one thing this is important shake hands this is as tight as you should be holding the club okay okay you seem to be pretty good right there I’m going to turn your grip just a little stronger which means that your V that’s formed by your thumb and forefinger okay both of these hands this thumb’s going to be just off the side doesn’t do much saves your blister from putting it there okay but the V th formed by your thumb and for finger point towards your right shoulder so a little more underneath on the club with both of these hands okay okay all right now when you take a swing I want you to take a practice swing first and what I want you to do is Swing as if you were hitting a ball that was on a high te just like this okay the Ball’s on a high te you’re going to swing back you’re going to swing through and imagine you’re hitting a ball on that high te right there practice swing good full swing back and through great all the way back all the way through great okay when you finish through good all the way through let your eyes come up follow where because you’re going to hit a good one here in a short time and I want you to be able to see it so don’t stare at where the ball used to be let your eyes follow there you go good let your eyes follow the sh okay very very good okay now another adjustment here this is is a t that represents center field that’s second base that’s called okay this is where the short stop would be standing and this is where the second baseman would be standing okay what I want you to do is I want you to feel like you’re going to swing towards the second basement okay not towards the short stop so you’re going to feel like you swing the club more to the right in this direction so practice swing up off the ground just like this swing it back swing it through as if you’re hitting a ball on a high te and swing it out to right field very very good lower the club down six inches and do the same thing good do it again good a little more to the right good lower the club down another few inches same thing again these practice swings help give you a sense of the plane of your swing great a little more to right field if you would excellent excellent excellent all right you got it you’re almost there okay you’re almost there to hit your first draw all right ease up on your grip pressure grip underneath soft with your hands this is the key thing right here this is a key move right here when you come into the ball ideally the back of your left left hand is square or facing the target at impact now when you hit the ball and you slice it to the right push it off to the right whatever okay whatever you want to call it your face is open you’re hitting with the side of your hand now eventually everybody squares it m okay eventually eventually for everyone it turns okay yeah okay but it’s too late yeah okay you need to do it back here so what I want you to feel is I want you to feel the back of your left hand is turning this way there’s the back of your left hand you’re making that motion right there okay I keep just let me see you do it slowly soft turn turn it good softer with your hands turn your hand and you got to feel like it’s going to happen back here if you wait to here it’s too late back here turn the back of your left hand good good good excellent now you’re doing you’re doing that great except you’re swinging towards the short stop and I want you to swing towards the second basement okay so you’re going to swing over here same idea good all the way through all the way through with the club eyes up when you come through excellent now swing a little more to the second basement please great go for it you kidding me that’s wow one shot huh one shot everybody that hits to the right sets the club down like this to compensate but you’re not going to hit to the right anymore okay so you’ve got to learn to put the face down Square cuz if you put a l down like this you’re going to hit it left which is better than right okay it’s a step in the right direction but what you need to do go ahead and hold on to it get your grip soft with your grip pressure the key for you is is leveling your plane out so the practice swings up off the ground are really really important practice swings off the ground feel like you’re swinging towards me okay beautiful and then and then the last part of the puzzle is this part right here you got to feel that left you got to feel that mhm you have to feel that MH that has to happen before you get to the ball if you wait it’s too late okay couple more prac swings please beautiful turn the left hand before you get to the ball yep good little more turn in the back swing good little more to the right beautiful eyes up when you come through so you can see the shot good okay with the ball good good do it again anything curving from right to left is a step in the right direction okay all right feet one inch this way little wider stance good good right there Club face there practice swing again up off the soft with your arms arms relax with your grip good good little more turn going back yep you got it that’s it good how many of you sliced so far zero yep do it again practice swing up off the ground beautiful that was it right there good job wow wow huh oh yeah I’m in the wow business huh yes good right there okay make sure you turn this is really important of EAS easy softer with your grip turn the left hand turn it turn it turn it that’s it that’s the move right there do that again yep yep the left hand so when you square you’re hitting with the back of left hand that has to turn that way okay practice swing up off the ground turn your shoulders a little more on the back swing feel like you’re swinging out to right field and turn your left hand good good good really good that time one more good you hear that swish make it louder one more practice swing nice now we’re talking now let me see you hit it Go [Music] Good Feet this way a little good this hand’s perfect just relax your grip right there okay don’t move that good good beautiful good did you enjoy that that’s amazing thank you so much sir you’re welcome you got something to practice thank you for my first lesson ever first lesson ever can’t wait to take out my buddies now look at this guy unbelievable thank you so much so much for [Music]

Those first shots he took looked more like push's than slices to me. Anyone agree?
Question I have – does this theory work with all clubs or just driver? Assume it does ?
Someone needs cardio
The lad getting the training needs some cardio asap or he might simply die.
I don’t understand the concept of swinging out to right field or second base. It feels the same to me and I can’t figure it out
Too many beers, not enough cardio.
Wow… all I can say is, when I sat the driver on the ground the way it automatically sits (a tad open), and coming down with a slight turning of the lead wrist…BOOM!! Unbelievable!! Down the pipe!! And I tried it on the golf course without practicing it. I didn't hit the DRAW, but I was booming it straight down the middle. I'm not sure at this point that I want to try to hit a draw (LOL). The SLICE is gone and man… i'm totally satisfied. I'm guessing that with a little more swing to the Short Stop (I'm a Lefty), and an earlier turning of the lead wrist, will probably give me that Draw, but heyyyyyy, I don't want to mess up what I'm finally doing!! I'll try the draw later on (LOL)!! Who would've imagined? One free 11 minute video of the legendary Hank Haney, and I'm hitting FIR's like clockwork!! Mannnn… I am a Happy Camper… thank you Mr. Haney.
I don't understand how you know exactly how much to turn your wrist. How do you get it perfectly correct without turning too far?
Tried this today by swinging 3 times to right field and then lined up and hit and wouldn't ya know it I hit straight down the middle. Crazy
how much is this lesson ? I been watching these and its basically the same info every time but i dont think it really resonates unless you are there.
The hand turn is what helped me the most. I think this is what they mean when they say "releasing" the club
All this time I’ve been slicing. Frustrated to the point of wanting to give up golf so many times. But THIS VIDEO RIGHT HERE fixed all my problems 😩😩😩 I feel like I opened a whole new world in my golf game. I hit a draw or straight ball every single time today. The only slice was intentional just to prove to myself Hank knows what he’s doing. Hank you’ll probably never see my comment but THANK YOU FOR THIS. SINCERELY A WHOLE NEW GOLFER
Please blow your noes all that mouth breathing, sounded like he was going to pass out. Nice fix
hit the range today and boy howdy, does all this info help a insane amount ! picked up my first golf club 3 weeks ago and boy this is gonna change the whole thing for me ! thanks Mr Haney ! you are appreciated even when not around
Man that guy breathing really heavy. He gonna have a heart attack
I tried this drill today and wouldn’t you believe that I added 15 yards to my drive, shaved 6 strokes, and lowered my cholesterol by 30 points
I used to hit straight bullets til I shattered my right elbow a year ago this week. Now I slice like crazy and this vid has shown me why. I stopped swinging to second baseman….this is good stuff!
Is this driver specific? Or has it helped anyone with their irons too?
I must admit I never understand why they all say hitting right to left is better than hitting left to right – but all the pros seem to say so. Surely it depends on the hole you're playing. I used to hook and it was just as frustrating as hitting a slice if it ended up in the trees.
Dude sounds like he is running up a mountain
Haney building that muscle memory of switching the slice to the hook and then finally the straight penetrating shot is such a eureka moment in a high handicappers golf journey. You can feel that guys excitement after probably 1000’s of frustrating slices.
Breath… He's all amped up!
him huffing and puffing, very relatable.
Ol boy is out of breath big time lol
Great lesson. That dude needs to sit though. Same problem I have when I go to the range. Arms and legs get a bit shakey after about the 30th ball
