You’re Not Tiger Woods! (This Simple Thought Change My Game)

in this tip I’m trying to teach you this powerful effortless pain-free golf swing that I’ve been teaching since 1991 Long time Never changed what I’ve taught Okay I teach the exact same thing Taught back since 1991 Why would I do that I do that because I get unreal results All right So you want to learn this type of swing So if you learn this type of swing you now have a swing for life Okay It’s powerful It’s effortless And it’s painfree So this is why you want to get this swing Tons of tips on the channel about it Okay So I got thinking about this uh few weeks ago I wanted to do a tip about it So I’m trying to remember back when I when I actually got this Okay So what was I thinking or what was I saying to myself right in that moment when I stopped right here I was right here trying to help every shot Right here trying to accelerate that golf club Nobody told me to not hit the ball with my arms I’d been working on my swing at that point for 10 years Okay I was a scratch golfer at 17 Self-taught Went down to Florida hitting some bad shots Started taking lessons cuz I wanted to fix the bad shots Guy changes my whole swing takes me 10 years to get it back Okay and I went to some of the best teachers in the world Okay how did I get it back Well this is one of the things that I thought of to get me to not hit the ball with my arms Now keep in mind my swing didn’t look bad I’ve been working positions okay First two years I was hitting a thousand balls a day every day seven days a week for two years After I didn’t get it just beating balls I started working positions So my swing didn’t look bad It’s just I was hitting the ball everywhere All right So right here I was trying to hit it as hard as I could or sorry help the shot Well if you do that you start or you run the risk of twisting the face So the day I turn my arms off I go from hitting it everywhere to down the middle on the green Rarely would I miss a fairway or a green All right But I did that because I was not trying to manipulate the face If this face is only open or closed just a few degrees you are going to hit it off the planet So if I’m here trying to help it sometimes it comes through open sometimes it comes through closed I got no idea where it’s going So right in that moment when I started to hit some taking my arms out of it I thought to myself okay I really feel like I’m swinging hard Okay I’m like I’m trying to swing like Tiger Woods here right Right here I’m trying to swing like Tiger Woods I just started saying to myself you’re not Tiger Woods So quit start quit trying to swing like Tiger Woods Okay you’re not him You need to be yourself You need to swing at a level you can swing at All right so every shot I hit I kept saying that to myself Okay you’re not Tiger Woods Okay you’re not Tiger Woods Just be yourself Let the club go wherever it wants to go And if it goes you know 280 300 perfect Okay Don’t try for 320 340 You know if it’s downwind hard fairways yeah you could do that But quit trying to hit at a distance you can’t physically do or comfortably do And you saw Tiger back in the day Yeah he used to hit it everywhere right But you could see he was going 100% at it There’s like 5,000 people around every tea deck What’s he going to do Patty cake it off the tea No he’s going to try and hammer it as hard as he can Okay that’s what I was doing So it was more important to me to hit fairway after fairway green after green So I kept thinking to myself you’re not Tiger Woods You’re not Tiger Woods Just be yourself Be yourself Swing at a level you can swing at Okay After you start hitting tons of fairways tons of greens you get confidence Okay You start writing the low numbers on your scorecard game is way easier because it’s way easier from the fairway or on the green Okay Not in the trees out of bounds in the water It’s like that is not fun Okay So I changed the way I thought but I’m not kidding I used to literally say that every T-OT every approach shot you’re not Tiger Woods You’re not Tiger Woods Stop trying to hit it like Tiger Woods Okay Nowadays it’d be you know quit trying to hit it like Rory Mroy or Dshambo You’re not Dshambo okay You never will be so quit trying to be him Okay so that’s could be the reminder now All right so a better image would be let me swing like Freddy Couples okay Ah nice and loose totally relaxed Let me swing easy Okay again you keep hitting fairways you gain confidence Confidence breeds distance So you will start hitting it longer Once you start hitting it more down the middle you hit it everywhere You have zero confidence You are shooting high numbers on your scorecard That is not fun You know losing a ton of balls you know and you have no idea what you’re even doing All right Why not just pop them down the middle all day long Play great golf Get confidence Then start adding a little bit more legs and hips Maybe loosen up a little bit more Something that’s looser swings faster than something that’s tighter So you could loosen your wrists a little bit more Give it a little bit more legs and hips to get a little bit more distance into the future All right Try something different Okay But maybe you can use that same thought process that I went through All right So I’m trying to just again I thought of this a few weeks ago I’m like “Oh yeah I remember I was kept saying to myself you’re not Tiger Woods You’re not Tiger Woods So quit trying to be Tiger Woods Be yourself okay Be yourself Then you’ll get it All right?” And I did So hopefully you can learn from Remember Tiger Woods back in the day and how hard he used to hit it? Watching Tiger hit a ball got me to change how I was thinking. Once I did, I finally learned an effortless swing.

A few weeks ago, I remembered what I was thinking about right at the moment when I got an effortless swing. Tiger Woods was number 1 at the time so he was on everyone’s mind. Well, in watching him hit the ball I finally realized I wasn’t him so why was I trying to swing like Tiger.

So every drive and iron shot I hit I changed how I was thinking. Once I did this, I had the effortless swing every time. I literally went from hitting it sideways to straight and it took thinking about Tiger Woods to do it. Watch this tip and say this to yourself. It doesn’t have to be Tiger. You could switch out Rory McIlroy or even Bryson DeChambeau. Take your pick.

  1. Thanks for reinforcing that I am not a pro. I can’t believe that I am hitting the ball farther now at age 79 than age 45 by turning off my arms and firing my hips. I am here to tell you all my back issues are also nearly gone. I am saved and more competitive. Thank you Paul…….

  3. Great video, I know each swing is different, but I was wondering if there is a certain driver loft that works best for this body swing

  4. The more I relax my wrists and arms the further I hit the ball. Finish forward…good follow through. These are my swing thoughts.

  5. Played 9 yesterday and tried to hit it like Tiger – terrible results. Went to the range today (before I watched this vid). Dialed the swing back a bit, and was hitting them sweet, straight down the middle. Every time I strayed left/right. I’d stop, “loosen-up” wrists, make sure rotation was correct (touch legs/head) and dial it back – straight down the middle again. I’m not Tiger, and just have to remember that on the course.
