What could be better? The Fourth of July and baseball. Happy 4th everyone and welcome inside Kors Field where the Rockies tonight will open up a three-game series against the Chicago White Socks. Tonight marks the highly anticipated Major League Baseball debut of the 23-year-old Coulson Montgomery. Former first round draft pick back in 2021, the fifth ranked prospect in the White Socks organization. He will show what he’s got in a big league uniform tonight here in Colorado. Hopefully for Antonio, you you look at the last three or four games. I know he’s coming off that rough one up in Milwaukee and really it’s the first inning that’s that’s hurt him a lot this year. 16 innings as far as first innings go. 32 hits, 18 earned runs and a 1013 ERA. So trying to get out of this first inning unscathed. Antonio Talkman not wasting any time. A flare to left field and a single to start this ball game and hitting in the two spot. Chase my draw. This is on the ground short. See if the Rockies can turn. Yes, they can. That’s a good start. 643 85th double play the Rockies have turned this year. I like the way Ryan got down to one knee and then just moved from down there. They’ll get Andrew Ben and Tindy. Left-handed batter hits it past sends a tella but Ritter is right there. Shortstop throws out the DH and just like that in seven pitches. The top of the first is over. And on the mound for the White Sox, Adrien Hower. He’s pitched some great baseball. This will be his eighth start for the White Sox. 42 and 2/3. Look at that sparkling erra at 1.90. First play for Coulson Montgomery. And he makes it look routine here to start this bottom of the first inning. Well, you want to get it out of the way early. Kosa Montgomery made that look awful easy. So, two up and two down. And now it’s Jordan Beck, their left fielder as Rojos. Couple shuffles will make the throw and a nice one, two, three inning for Adrien Howser. Top two, Miguel Vargas leads off against Antonio Senzotella. This one is hit hard to center field and it’s going to get down past the diving Moniac. Vargas, he’s going to hustle. Takes the turnaround second. Will stop there. A double to start this second inning. That stops the 0 for19 for Vargas. Now here’s Brooks Baldwin, the center fielder. Swing and a miss. Came right back with that same pitch. A 95 mph fast to get the strike out. Sends it to his first tonight. That’s fair to run to the back and that’ll retire Quero. Vargas now at third and Coulson Montgomery will get his first career plate appearance. And with Coulson Montgomery making his big league debut tonight, that makes number 11 on the season for White Sox players with their callup to the show. Broken back Montgomery gets out of the box. And was that potential catcher interference? Cuz Montgomery pointed back, he noticed something. And yes, it was. That was going to be called on the catcher, Hunter Goodman. You see that more and more now, catchers trying to get up and try to frame it, try to steal pitches. You can see right away he kind of pulled his hand back. He knew it as soon as contact was made with that catcher’s glove. Well, his dad’s happy because in his first big league appearance, he gets on base. Now, Michael Taylor, the veteran outfielder. It’s a hitter. Runners at the corners. Two away. This is top toward McMahon. And he was going to go the short way, but they had time to get it across and no harm done by the catcher’s interference. Middle of two, no score. Rockies and White Socks on the fourth of July. Michaelia draws the walk. Keeps the inn and going. Ryan Ritter comes up now with runners at the corners. Broken bat a flare to left field. Montgomery. Will he get there? Oh, what a catch in his big league debut. You see what Coulson Montgomery can do. Welcome to the show. You can see now why he was such a good basketball player in high school. This is fully extended. Coulson Montgomery glove me tender. Wow. Well, that will be on the highlight reel all season long as maybe the one to beat. Proud dad right there going that’s right. That’s my boy. Y Fernandez, the Rockies rookie DH tonight will lead off. There’s the first major league hit for Yon Fernandez. Congratulations to Yankee in game number two. Pitch coming up and in on Yonke and he was able to pull it through the hole on the right side. The 22year-old will remember that for sure. There’s a swing and a chop picked up by Vargas and he’ll take the short throw to second where Montgomery is standing. That’s a 36 fieldielder’s choice to get the lead man Fernandez. So one down. Freeman’s aboard on the fieldielder’s choice. Another fire to first and they got him. Tyler Freeman picked off. See if the Rockies want to challenge this as we take another look. Dan boy. Quick feet by Hower, right? That’s not a very big lead. And there will be no challenge as Freeman is picked off at first. Another 3-2 to Goodman. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Nice comeback to finish that inning off. One out. They are loaded for Montgomery. It’s kind of all set up for him here, isn’t it? You would really love to see him after that spectacular play defensively deliver here. His first big league hit. This is a soft drive. Nobody else available for Tolia. Two outs. He thought about throwing to second. Made the right decision. Held on to the ball. Vargas got back. The soft liner makes it two out and gives Senzotella a chance for an escape. Michael Taylor now at the plate. Delivers this one into right field and it’s going to get down. Ben Tendy scores. Vargas is being waved in. A two RBI single for Michael A. Taylor as the Socks strike first here in this fourth inning. Yeah, some two out thunder from the White Socks. Great hitting approach there by Michael A. Taylor. Gets a pitch and inside out swing it. Heads up base running too by Vargas at second base. And Michael will be into second base with a one out double. First extra base hit of the ball game for the Rockies. Ryan Ritter coming to bat. Rick will hit a one hopper right to Rojas at third and he makes a bad throw in the sun. It gets by Vargas to trying to score. He will. Ritter safe at second. I don’t know if it was the sun or it was a bad throw trying to take the sun out of it. Either way, the error costs the White Sox. Josh catches it, gives the look, but I think he’s afraid to bounce it because there’s a runner at second. So for Vargas, he didn’t pick that up until the end. Two down with Ritter still at second. Tyler Freeman and held in check first two times up. A couple of ground balls. Gapper left center field for Freeman. This will tie it up. Ritter comes to the house. Tyler Freeman in the second with a double. Tyler Freeman a two out RBI double. His ninth. Two base hit. Deadlocks this game at two. So good to see anytime, but especially with the Rockies this year with two outs coming up with that big hit. And I guess there’s anybody that you would think might do it to beat Tyler Freeman swinging that hot bat. One away. And here’s Edgar Carol 0 for one plus a walk as he locks in against Senzotella ready to throw his 90th pitch. Gets underneath high in the air. Back it goes. Freeman looking up and it is gone. Edgar Carol his first big league home run and it comes here at Coors Field. You can smile around the bases. The Socks taking a 32 lead here in the sixth. Absolutely knew it with the sound of that one. And today in batting practice, Edgar was planting a few of them in that same location. Curious to see if he gets the silent treatment from the guys in the dugout. Yeah, he’s getting totally ignored. He’s getting ignored. He’s like, “All right, well, you’ll never forget your first one. He’ll remember this for the rest of his life.” And now here they come. the fellas. Adrien Howser back to work in the bottom of the eighth. Adrien Howser has been beyond the seventh inning, one time in his career. And he swings and misses on a change up. That’s strike three. He’s just a good pitcher, plain and simple. Terrific change up. Appeared to be a strike the whole way. There’s the grip. Ball just dives down and in. Two away in the Rocky’s eighth. Hunter Goodman, Rocky’s catcher, has flyed to right, struck out and flyed to center. Look at this. This is pitching 101. He is putting on a clinic. Adrien Hower, eight solid innings. First eight inning outing by a White Socks pitcher this season. Adrien Howser puts his arm around his catcher. They walk off toward the dugout. Socks lead 32. Bottom of the ninth. Rookie Grant Taylor into the game to try to save it for Adrien Howser. Moniac indeed keeps things going. Rocky’s first hit since the fifth inning. Tying run on with two outs for Ryan McMahon. McMahon is 0 for his last 13. Two balls, two strikes. Taylor deals. Got him swinging. That thing’s a vicious thing, John. I’m telling you. What an effort from the youth movement from the White Socks.
