Westwood clinches open spot with victory at Dundonaldi. Westwood has secured a return to the open championship after a three-year absence by triumphing in his qualifying event at Dundonald Lynx. The 52-year-old Englishman carded rounds of 70 and 67 for seven underpar total in challenging blustery conditions in airshshire. His performance earned him one of 20 coveted spots available across for qualifying venues for this year’s open at Royal Portrush taking place from the 17th to the 20th of July. Westwood was one of eight English players to qualify. I’ve always said it’s the greatest championship in golf said Westwood who tied for fourth the last time the Open was held at Port Trush in 2019. It was runner up at St. Andrews in 2010. As a British player, you get phenomenal support and I really enjoy portrush last time. I won’t have any expectations. I’m playing Varama next week and live so I’ll try to sharpen my game there. Westwood, a former world number one. Emphasize the age is no barrier to success on Link’s courses of all the majors. Lynx golf is the one where older players can still contend. Tom Watson nearly won at Turnberry in 2009 and Greg Norman contended at Burkdale a few years later. You need Cunning and Guile in the Wind. This year’s open will be Westwood’s 28th appearance in the championship and is 93rd major. Overall dot also qualifying from Dun Donald Rcott’s Daniel Young and Connor Graham who will make their open debuts after finishing in the top five. Blair Gory amateur Graham secured his spot via a playoff win over fellow Scott Paulo Hera Young from Perth. Call it a major milestone in his career. It’s a big big step for me. The course was challenging and they played some tough pins. I had to stay patient, especially in the morning when I didn’t have my best game.
