The intersection of golf and culture.

Behind every drained putt or hosel rocket into the stands is a human being with complex emotions—among them, an insatiable appetite for golf. That’s what we’re after. Golf’s humanity is what makes it so special to us. There have never been more reasons to love this game, and we’re endeavoring to explore them all.

I don’t want you to hit a fade. Only draws for a year. I’m Michael Kim. Come play a hole with me. I think it’s definitely cutting.
It’s a little right side.
I know you’ve worked with Sean Foley um throughout the process and he said that, you know, one of the reasons he was so intrigued by you is that other guys talked about you as an amateur as this like force, like you were a force in amateur golf.
Did you feel it at the time? Did you have a sense of like I’m the man?
I I I don’t know about whether I thought I was out. Um, I was the man, but I I did have a really good amateur career, especially in 2013. I think part with that is the fact that like our team at Cal was so good.
Max Weaver, I remember
Michael Weaver, Brandon HGY, Joel Stalter. But yeah, I had I had a I had a nice stretch there.
How about first major for lab? Yeah.
You were you early?
I was I was pretty early in it. Um, I started back when I was on Cornfairy Tour, so like 22. They had that big spaceship DF1 I think it was called and jokingly tried one and I even told the Scotty rep I was like don’t worry and just just mess around and I actually kind of liked it. So should cover. Is it true that Sean made you hit like a bunch of snap hooks in a row? Well, I wouldn’t call it snap hooks, but it was definitely a pronounced draw for about a month to ingrain kind of the the motion that he wanted to see. A month after working together, I actually Monday qualified for the Napa tournament. Wednesday night, I get a call from Sean. He’s like, “How’s it going?” And he’s like, “Yeah, you know, just I don’t I can’t trust the draw. Like, I think I’m just going to hit my fade during the tournament.” And I just played absolutely terrible during the tournament. Missed the cup by a mile. And he calls me Friday afternoon. He’s like, “Michael.” He goes, “For a year. I don’t want you to hit a draw. A year.” Then I said, “Okay, deal.” And
a year I don’t want you to hit a fade.
Oh, I don’t want you to hit a fade. Yes. I don’t want you to hit a fade. Only draws for a year. We can talk about it after.
He wasn’t lying.
He wasn’t lying. Even now, I uh I’ll hit a fade once in a while.
You got to h like have one of the more positive relationships with Twitter.
Yeah. Every time I play bad, I always assume that like people that are just going to bash me, but it’s actually been pretty positive and uh it’s it’s been really nice.
You like doing it?
Yeah. Yeah. I didn’t know what I was trying to get out of it when I first started, but uh so far it’s been it’s been it’s been really nice. Might have to go a little. Yeah, a little short.
I miss the cuts. I miss the big fields.
Even in the signature events, the ones I’ve played much better on are the ones with cuts. And I think
you got to be on it.
I definitely think that absolutely played played a role for me. Little left.
