WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Matchplay kicked off on Sunday in the 101st Watertown Men’s City Golf Championship at the Thompson Park Golf Course.

The top 5 after qualifying:

Defending champion Josh Woodward took the top seed, and Matt Barton won medalist honors in a 3-way tie via a handicap tie break to take the 2nd seed.

Bob Hughes is the 3rd seed, Dylan Kernehan is the 4th seed, and 15-year-old Dakesh Govender shot a 1 under 71 to take the 5th seed.

On Sunday, the first match of the day pitted defending champion Josh Woodward against Alfred Davis.

The 10th hole was the first hole for match play on Sunday, and Davis sank his par putt.

Woodward, needing a tap-in for par to halve the hole, sinks it. Woodward beats Davis 7 and 6.

2nd seed Matt Barton, who was a medalist in Saturday’s qualifying, met Shea Spencer.

It was Spencer with the long par putt on 10, sliding it right of the hole. He bogeys the hole.

Then it was Barton with a birdie opportunity to win the hole. He also misses. Barton parred the hole to go 1 up. Barton beats Spencer 7 and 6.

3rd seed and 14-time winner Bob Hughes met Todd Lalone.

It was Lalone with a long birdie chance on 10, but he came up short and parred the hole.

Hughes drops his short par putt to halve the hole and beats Lalone 6 and 5.

4th seed Dylan Kernehan faced off against Shane Harrod.

Kernehan looked to get off to a quick start, but he just missed the long birdie putt and settled for par.

Then it was Harrod with a chance to win the hole with a birdie, but his effort slid right. He parred the hole to make it even after 1. Kernehan beats Harrod 4 and 3.

5th seed 15-year-old Daksheh Govender was in a battle with Rocco Canale.

Canale, looking to put on the early pressure, just missed his birdie putt and settled for par.

Govender with a par putt that he misses. Canale goes 1 up after 1 and beats Govender 6 and 5.

6th seed Taylor Reardon matched up with Tommy Bedard.

It was Bedard with a bogey putt on 10 that he drained.

Reardon missed his par putt and settled for bogey and halved the hole. Reardon beats Bedard 4 and 3.

7th seed Jude Jennings battled Jack St. Joseph.

On the 10th hole, it was Jennings with a long birdie opportunity that missed left. He would settle for par.

St. Joseph needs this par putt to halve the hole, and he drains it. Jennings beats St. Joseph 4 and 2.

8th seed Brandon Mothersell took on Steve Magovney.

It was Mothersell with the chip out of the sand for birdie that almost goes in. He parred the hole.

Magovney buries his par putt to halve the hole as Mothersell beats Magovney 3 and 2.
