you’re going to be battling tonight against this young talented pitcher I think he’s the best prospect He’s not a prospect anymore to come up since Steven Strawber with the Washington Nationals He has that kind of control and stuff and he visits Flushing for the first time tonight Mets pitchers at home erra as a staff starting pitchers 2.09 That is just phenomenal Phenomenal Hayes Reynolds and McCutchen against Peterson who took a loss his last time out in Arizona And Hayes slams one out to right So to get some ground he’s there for the first out 57 12% ground balls And he gets a ground ball from Brian Reynolds right on Q Francisco Lindor throws him out They’re a two-way Two Pirates gone in the first against Peterson And now it’s Andrew McCutchen and a walk McCutchen has drawn five walks against Peterson in his career And he’s aboard for Joey Bart All four back-to- back walks And now Matt Gorski ahead on Gorski 0 and two and he tried to get him to go and he did on the curve ball away Three pitches and Gorski is gone and Peterson gets through the top of the first around a couple of walks with Francisco Lindor lead it off Then Juan Sto and Pete Alonzo and he hits one hard base hit in left center field closing on the ball is Canario and Lindor will hold at first base with a well struck single Yeah I don’t know what it is Why it is the performance level is so high right now for Lindor at home and he’s sometimes not alone with some just big moments The Mets are 15 and four here Last couple of games have been a struggle for Sodto 0 for nine with four punch outs leaving runners on and in scoring position And Sodto takes it wide ball four and the Mets have the first two men on Ski having trouble throwing strikes early on Alonzo had a double in his last at bat yesterday Bouncing ball There’s one And there is two Double play just at the right time Kinder Falefa to Triolo to Gorski Here’s a one two and a swing and a miss He struck him out Went with a change up Ski strikes out NMO So two were on and nobody out Skins gets out of it So we’re through an inning from New York Earlier today IKF had a bit of a family reunion getting to meet his second cousin Scott Ker for the very first time Scott is the son of Hall of Famer Ralph Ker And Scott wrote a book called One of Kinder highlighting the life and legacy of both of his parents And he admitted that through writing that book there was a missing link And that link was none other than Isaiah Ker A fly ball to pretty deep left field Hannah And how about Ker a home run in New York No way Kinder Fale has homered his first home run this season That’s incredible That’s goosebumps right there Of course Ralph Kinder broadcast so many years for the Mets Legendary iconic was the the pirate hall of famer That was so cool Mets have been able to get skins out of the stretch in each of the first two innings There’s the set in the pitch Swinging a miss Struck him out beat him to the spot with 98 Second It’s Ventos and then Jeff McNeel NMO cracks the ball to right center field and deep Canario on the run Looks up It is off the wall Bounces to Canario NMO to second He stops there with a standup double That was a blast by NMO Just a sharp line drive but a lot of top spin that almost got out of here but it most certainly made a dent in that right field wall and he’s on base ahead of Mark Ventos Three times in four innings now the Mets have put the leadoff man on Swing and a miss SK struck him out down and in spinker He cannot advance the runner from second He strikes out That’s a big strike out for Sk But have a couple cracks at it here Bring up the center fielder Jeff McNeel skins from the stretch deals and a pitch line down the right field line That’s a base hit heading to the corner NMO scores from second base Reynolds to fish it out McNeel jogs into second with a game-tying RBI double in the six spot tonight RBI spot and he makes it happen for the Mets who tie it up off skins and that NMO leadoff double huge Well we are all even One Mets one Pirates one as we go to the fifth rips this to left and he’ll have extra bases on a one-two pitch A double for Triolo A good piece of hitting right there from Big Tree You could tell he was anxious to do something The first pitch of the at bat he swings it a two seam fast way off the plate This looks like a cutter Hit hard and Batty with a terrific diving stop Gets up and throws out Davis Wow Brett Batty might have saved a run right there with a beautiful diving play for the second out Oh wouldn’t you know it Batty Oh if Triolo continues he probably scores but he holds up for just praising Batty He gets a glove on it and slowed it down And if Triolo keeps going probably scores Yeah this is going to be a base hit Well it’s first and third A base hit off the glove of a third baseman Many in this crowd begin the rhythmic two strike applause trying to help Peterson through two coming Struck in Peterson with a slider Fans Reynolds to work his way out of the jam So one out pick up skins and now Lindor will take his time to get in the batters box And the first pitch to him hit hard on the ground to the right side A base hit going into right field The Mets have their fifth hit off of SK and the second for Lindor who holds on at first Tie game a run a piece Mets batting Bottom of the fifth as we expected a good pitcher duel tonight Swing and a miss Strikes him out with a high and away slider That’s the second out here in the fifth Oh man Strikes out Alonzo down in the count three 0 Comes back to strike him out Backto back Ks and Gorski takes strike three called change up Got him looking that time Seven strikeouts for Peterson Third time he’s gotten Gorski Two out Well now it’s Isaiah Connor Falefa Here’s the 1-1 swinging a ball hit the other way to right Base hit McCutchen can get to second Line drive single to right Sodto got over it and cut it off quickly So a two-hit night for a Kinder Fa in his return from the injured list Fly ball out to right and Sodto is there and Peterson finds his way out of another jam Leaves a couple of men on in the sixth Still a 1-1 game So two on one out Alvarez who can uh ground into a double play here and there’s four out of 10 with runners in scoring position including a ground out tonight Bouncing ball by KF to second for one to first There it is Double play Beautiful Another sinking fast ball from Paul SK off the end of the bat It’s an inning ending double play by Alvarez And the Mets leave on another runner against Paul Skins David Peterson’s going to start this inning with 90 pitches and Jos Budo up in the bullpen right behind him And Triolo works a 10 pitch walk to start the seventh and Carlos Mendoza couldn’t wait to get out of the dugout That’s going to be it The job well done by David Peterson Leaves in a 1-1 game in the seventh So after Triolo’s 10 pitch at bat this will be the seventh pitch to Davis and he got him Went to the slider strikes out Davis for the first down of the inning Just waiting for Budo to just step off cuz again if Budo steps off to look him back they’ve already used two disengagements It’d be a ball and trio Oh that’s a third pickoff Safe That’s a B How about that had to get him out or it’s a B And so now he is at third So the Mets hoping for two against Reynolds who’s grounded out twice and struck out First and third one out Tie game seventh inning Ground ball short stop throw to second for one to first They won’t turn two It’s not a hit but it’s an RBI for Reynolds And the Pirates playing some small ball scratch out the go-ahead run in the seventh Sodto coming in was over the last two days of that the final two days of that Cub series 0 for nine with four strikeouts and now trying to get Sodto to pin that tying run a third and Juan grounds it slowly toward first Fair ball Gorski will take it to the bag as the tying run comes home Gorski was not a chance letting that ball go foul So Sodto picks up the tying RBI as Taylor comes home to score and it’s two to2 Now here’s Pete Alonzo in a tie game Mets two Pirates two runner at second two outs Hold him in the righty against the righty Alonzo with aunia at second and he pulls one toward the hole Off the glow of Hayes Here comes Akuna He’s going to try to score Conor F is throw to the plate He is save and the Mets take the lead Akuna hesitated ever so slightly coming around third base but still was able to beat the throw from Connor Falea for the go-ahead run and the Mets lead 3-2 Unlike the Pirates Triolo who stopped at third base on a similar kind of play The problem here is watch Henry Davis He takes the throw behind the plate Did a Couldn’t you touch the plate did he get the hand on the plate before the tag i think he got his hand They’re going to check it anyway He got his hand underneath the glove If he takes that in front of the plate carry there’s no place for Akuna to go after the runner Ednel Nunes going to pitch the eight Yep He’s faced seven batters He’s walked five of them allowed three runs One-1 to Bart Breaking ball hit deep to left field Back goes NMO onto the track at the wall He jumps and he made the catch Brandon NML looks as though he’s taken a home run away from Joey Bart A sensational catch by NMO at the top of the left center field fence to the left of the 370 mark Brandon NMO for now keeps the Mets in front Highway robbery Bay very fast representing the tying run Nobody out Sharply hit off the glove and a short stop Lindor Lindor the shore glove Two-time gold glover for the Mets Can’t handle the shot Two on Nobody out Squares Bunts Up third Akuna fields throws and gets Davis The sacrifice is successful And now Bucks on the pond in scoring position One out for Hayes Coming up Ground ball to third Off the glove to the third baseman Aona on the first Out there Pirates have tied it Two ground balls off the infielders’s gloves Lindor and now Akuna Bay scores The Pirates are going to ask for a crew chief review Have to review the calls overturned The runner is safe So now it’s Lindor has already had a walk-off home run this year It’s against the Cardinals And Lindor hits one right to the second base under the glove of Connor Falefa What is going on first Lindor makes an error And now Connor Falefa has one go right under his glove I think it might have hit the base Gary the corner Yes Skip skimmed right off the top of him That would elude even the goalies This game has been anything but as Ker Faf’s distant cousin used to say not a Spalding guide game And he hits one toward right center field That’s going to be down for a base hit Lor trying to go to third Base throw comes to second And the Mets on the winning run at third with one out Three for 14 tonight with men in scoring position Get another crack Pete Alonzo coming up Swinging a highf fly ball right center field Should be deep enough Lindor tagging at third Reynolds makes the catch Here comes Lindor The hailmary throw Not nearly in time Put it in the books And the Mets win a scrapping game as they defeat the Pirates in the opening game of this series Four to three Two RBI’s for Alonzo tonight Gave the Mets the lead in the seventh They give him the win in the ninth
