Scottie Scheffler is in the middle of a two-week break from playing competitively, and he’s set to return to PGA Tour action next week at the Genesis Scottish Open.
Scheffler has been the standout player on the PGA Tour this season, with three wins to his name from the 14 events that he has played, including a major championship.
Perhaps the most impressive statistic from the 29-year-old’s season is that he has 11 top-10 finishes to his name in just 14 events and he has finished inside the top-25 every time he has teed it up this season.
Scheffler missed the Rocket Classic last week and the John Deere Classic this week in order to prepare for two challenging weeks across the Atlantic Ocean.
After the Travelers Championship, Scheffler confirmed that he had some much-needed rest from PGA Tour action planned.
And one player was seemingly very grateful for that!
Matt Kuchar says why he’s thankful Scottie Scheffler is not playing the John Deere
2025 has been an average season as best so far for Matt Kuchar.
Kuchar has garnered more headlines off the course than on it, after he lifted the lid on where the PGA Tour and LIV currently are in negotiations about a potential merger.

However, it was back to business this week for the 47-year-old at TPC Deere Run. He is currently sitting in a tie for 10th on 11-under par, three shots adrift of the leaders.
After his round on Saturday, the nine-time PGA Tour winner was asked what it feels like to be back in contention on a Sunday in a PGA Tour event.
He said: “Well, I guess we have Scottie Scheffler to thank for not being here this week, giving the rest of us a chance. This is fun, it makes for great TV, it certainly makes for great theatre for the fans and the players. For us to be out there having a chance is kind of what we hope for. When we show up here on Tuesday, you hope to kind of get yourself in form, kind of get your game ready, and make your way into the weekend and have a chance come Sunday.“
Kuchar clearly said that in jest but the actual truth of the matter is that had Scheffler play at the John Deere Classic, he would most likely be in contention at the very least heading into Sunday.
Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 PGA season by numbers
The man from Dallas, Texas, has once again been a dominant force on tour this season.
Even when he’s seemingly playing poorly, he more often than not manages to grind out top-10 finishes.
The consistency he has displayed is truly frightening.

Those numbers are truly remarkable, especially when considering the sheer volume of top quality players competing on the PGA Tour right now.
Kuchar is right, if Scheffler was playing at the John Deere Classic this week, he almost certainly would have bumped someone out of the top 10.
