A NORAD fighter jet was scrambled Saturday afternoon to intercept a civilian aircraft that brazenly breached restricted airspace above Bedminster, where US President Donald Trump is spending the July 4th weekend. The high-alert moment unfolded when the unauthorised plane entered a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) zone, triggering an immediate response from the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

“NORAD intercepted a plane violating a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over Bedminster, NJ on July 5, 2025. Pilots, a reminder to check FAA NOTAMs before you fly! Fly informed. Fly safe,” North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) posted on X, sounding a sharp warning to all aviators.

Meanwhile, 1st Air Force doubled down saying, “Attention all pilots: If you’re flying anywhere near Bedminster, NJ, you’d better check NOTAMs 1353, 1358, 2246 and 2247. These TFRs are in place for a reason. No excuses! Stay sharp, stay legal, and stay out of restricted airspace.”

According its statement, the civilian pilot flew into a TFR zone just before 2:40 pm ET (Sunday 00:10 am IST) and was safely escorted out by the fighter jet. The statement also noted that this was the day’s fourth violation of the restricted airspace, and was followed by another one later.

How Trump spent his Fourth of July

Trump signed his first major legislative bill into law with a grand ceremony at the White House on the Fourth of July. The ceremony of signing the One Big Beautiful Bill into law was attended by many high-profile Republican members of Congress, as well as First Lady Melania Trump. The event coincided with the Fourth of July, America’s Independence Day.

Joined by First Lady Melania Trump, President Trump watched from the White House balcony as two B-2 bombers — of the same kind used in recent strikes on Iranian nuclear sites — soared overhead, accompanied by F-35 and F-22 fighter jets.

The 79-year-old took a victory lap just a day after Republicans unified to pass the sweeping mega-bill, enabling him to sign it as planned on the Fourth of July.
