I'm looking to get into golfing with some buddies who play. I picked this set up on Facebook marketplace. Do you think this is worth the $50? I realized after it didn't come with a putter but the clubs feel great.

  1. Sure. I would say spend money on lessons then on expensive equipment.

Donate somewhere or give to some dad so he can cut down for kids

Looks like the used set my Dad got me when I started playing at about 13 years old. I’m 70 now. They were older, used clubs then.

Go sell the bag and cart to a play it again sport for $25. Then sell them the woods for another $25. Then sell those irons to a different play it again sports for $15.

Then go pay $15 more, and get the cheapest set of new clubs you can find at a department store. That will be better than what you have there.

Talk about hitting it right on the screws!

  6. Gotta respect any man that pulls up to the course with those

having your PW say “PITCHING WEDGE” on it is pretty bad ass ngl.

I played blades from the time my dad put clubs in my hands at 5yo and for the last 56 years. The irons are fine if you are willing to learn to hit the ball. The woods need to be replaced with something a little more modern. I’ll say that if you learn to hit them and can get off the tee with the woods and score with them in the bag it’ll be an accomplishment worthy of respect.

‘Tis almost the same set my father bought me in the 70s. Wish I still had them.

Once you can hit that 1 iron with a high draw. That’s when you’ll be ready for the course.

  11. Looks very similar to my first set, only in reverse. My woods were Sam Snead and my irons were Wilson. Got them at a community garage sale for $1 / club and $3 for the bag. Spent $15 and played with them for 10 years before finally upgrading to something slightly more modern.

They most certainly will work, but they sure aren’t very forgiving. Tough set to get started with. I’d absolutely play them if it’s all I had though and I wouldn’t be ashamed.

Figure out when garbage pickup is. Then, the night before put it all in your garbage can and wheel it to the curb.

If you meant that they paid you $50 to take it off their hands, then it was a good deal. /S

  14. My first set were wilson k28’s which were sold around the same time as the old Sam Sneads you have, that was 50 years ago, if I were you I’d offload these and buy some cheap newer sticks.

I honestly wouldn’t even take these for free

Bro I will game that in a second. But I’m lefty. Keep that 1 iron as a practice club forever. Tiger talked about how he used to practice with an old karsten 1i to learn how to hit down on the ball. Don’t listen to these game Improvement comments.

Imagine your learning to drive, you want to learn in a Toyota Corolla? Or in a Lamborghini countach from the 90s?? Those clubs are gonna play sharper, your gonna spin out a lot, but you’ll have more fun.

down the road, when the Lamborghini goes to the dump, your gonna realize you’ve developed skills and you can take the turns a little sharper than all your buds driving Hyundais.

Looks like the set o started with, except I had Power built. If you can learn to hit those and break 100, you will be a beast with a new set.

If you want to legitimately hate the game, then you bought the perfect set!

Persimmon wood (real wood, woods) went away in the early 90’s. They are impossibly hard to hit. Those irons are similar.

You would legit be better off buying something from a garage sale as long as the clubs were made in the last 15-20 years over playing those.

That said, welcome to the game! It is frustratingly difficult and beautifully wonderful all at once! I wish you well!

Not a great price for clubs brought over on the Mayflower.

You will hate golf playing with these but we all hate golf anyway

  21. redditnor24

The person that gamed those died 30 years ago

You’re really about to test “it’s the Indian not the arrows”.

Your grandma is going to be so happy when you get her house back!

  24. arcvancouver

Show up on the course with 50’s era golf clothes and rock it with the set. 😂

  25. AnybodyElseButMe

Always use a 1 iron if there’s lightning: not even God can hit a 1 iron.

  26. Lucky_Mongoose_4834

This bag is money… I’d buy it for the leather bag, and the 1 iron alone.

Maybe use the wedges if they have good feel and those fairway woods are probably pretty awesome to punch out.
