We’ll replace the stuff. Just let him steal a little. Come on. We’re trying to get some wins here. You just die all the Grant, there supposed to be people in here. All right. Now, joining us on the show, friend of the show, friend of mine, and uh a newest, I would say, one of the newest members to the golf community in my friend circle. We got ourselves the one and only Mr. Jeremiah Pollock. Jeremiah, how you doing, my friend?
We are doing good. We’re doing good. We got back from uh from Dallas uh Sunday, Sunday Sunday afternoon. It was a brutal 3-hour drive back, but uh we’re back in Austin, Texas, enjoying the heat.
So, you were down in Dallas. You were at the uh the live golf tournament there in Dallas. Uh seeing all the superstars there on site. Uh have you ever been to a pro golf tournament or was this your first time? First time. First time. I was a virgin. Uh so what is your take uh as a as a no longer virgin to the uh pro golf world? I what’s what’s your takeaway? I mean there’s a lot of controversy. People are pro live, anti-live, all this other stuff. You showing up checking this thing out. Kind of give me your your instant reaction. I mean I guess let’s like we we have to start with this guys. Like my opinion is like it doesn’t have much weight in it. I’m um about a year into golf. Um fully addicted to the toxic relationship that is golf.
Amen.
Um but but I uh I’ve never been to a tournament. So um when when we got the opportunity to go up uh definitely was super super excited to go um just see what it’s all about, you know. Definitely. Uh even though I’ve never, you know, uh never played golf uh up until this past year, you know, growing up, you’ve seen the videos of everyone chasing Tiger around the greens as he’s playing in a tournament and it looked electric. You know, I’ve seen stuff on on waste management and stuff like that. So, to me, Liv, PJ, I I had, you know, there was no difference. I didn’t know what I was getting into. Um first off, I’ll start with this. Um couldn’t have been any hotter. UV index UV index of nine. It was only 93 94 out, but I mean there was no shade anywhere. It was definitely a scorcher. Within 5 minutes of just standing in it, you were you were soaking. Um but you know, I guess I would say my honest opinion is um I feel like going to uh going to a golf tournament um and going to a baseball game are very similar. Um it’s it’s it feels a little slow except in a baseball stadium you get to sit there. Um but the cool part was if this was PGA I guess it would have probably been a little bit more boring because it wasn’t like you know some big major tournament. Um but because it was live uh uh it was definitely uh had this energy about it. Um you know we we were lucky enough to be in uh I guess what’s called the birdie shack. So we had this like hospitality tent we were under. So we had shade. Um there was, you know, unlimited booze and food which totally helped. We’re right.
Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely helped. Uh we me and uh my buddy that I was with, we pretty quickly decided we were not leaving that hospitality tent. Um so uh we did a little walking around, but what was cool was we had um a dead eyee view of uh T-box one and uh the finish of hole nine. Um, so what what was cool is Bryson ended up I see Bryce te off. I’ve seen all the guys tee off on on one. Um, all the all the big dogs and then uh Bryson ended up on nine hitting in to our hospitality tent. So I don’t know if that made it on TV or not. Um, but I I don’t know if he landed in a lady’s drink or you know hit her food or whatever. But uh what was cool was is I got to I seen it kind of him coming our way and I was like what is he looking for? or it ended up being his ball. So, I kind of ran around the corner and to see the amount of eyeballs on him with all within 5T of him and like guys are like, uh, I don’t know what what you would call him, the security guys, whatever, like, “Hey, dude, you guys better make some room. The guy’s about to crank a ball here.” Um, but that amount of pressure and eyeballs so close to you, um, is just vastly different than anything I’ve ever seen before. uh like any, you know, I’m I’m definitely a big concert goer and football guy, rugby and even jiu-jitsu and stuff like that, but I’ve never seen so many people so close to the actual pro himself within like, you know, arms distance and that guy has to perform in that moment. And like for me, if I I’m new to golf, but if I got two or three buddies next to me and I feel like they’re staring a little hard, uh you suddenly it becomes the majors for me in that swing, you know? So, um I definitely noticed a different different pressure live watching them hit the ball. But it was definitely really really cool event. Um definitely something I think I would try to find events that are a little bit cooler in temperature. Um but but overall it was a fun time. Well, I would imagine, you know, Dallas in, you know, mid to late June has got to be a pretty exotic decision to make for uh holding a golf tournament. So, I mean, do you feel like there was a lot you didn’t see because you were hiding from the heat? You you missed some of the the event
for for sure. For sure. I um we didn’t we didn’t go like too much walking around and chasing guys down cuz you could even see it on them like they hit that ball and they were moving like they were not hanging out in any way. They weren’t trying to there was no conversing or you know kind of meandering across the course like they were hitting the ball. They’re moving like they were even trying to get out of it. Um, so yeah, definitely I would say missed um probably just like like I said that uh you know I keep recalling like those videos of Tiger when he’s at some of those majors and the crowd is just electric and just chasing them down. Um none of that none of that was happening for me in any way. I was trying to stay cooled off the best I could. I mean, they had air conditioned bathrooms, so why would I leave? You know,
you know what? I There are many times in life that I wish I had an air conditioned bathroom. So, that’s a that’s a feature right there. That’s, you know, nothing to be glossed over.
Uh, that is that. So, you know, seeing these guys play, you I mean, you’re watching some of the best in the world hit the ball right there off the first TE.
Uh, what did you think watching these guys? I’m assuming pound driver first TE getting a close look at that. I mean, you’ve been playing golf for about a year. You’ve probably seen some pretty bad swings. You might have seen some pretty good swings, but talk to me about the difference when you see a pro do it. Yeah. I mean, like like they could just do with their eyes closed and I’m pretty sure they’d be just fine. Um, but you know, one thing I realized, I was like, man, why am I trying to turn so much at the top? Like clearly I’m overdoing it because I’m very bad with the driver right now, guys. You know, we’ll be honest. When I started, it was like, “Okay, driver’s okay. Irons are really bad, but I love the wedges.” And then it turned into, “Well, driver’s not getting great, but the irons are getting better, and the wedges are still okay.” Right now, I’m in a phase where everything is bad.
Oh, yeah.
And I’m trying to trying to figure it out. The irons were getting okay, and now everything’s just not good.
And uh I was just seeing them as they’re coming back as they’re, you know, on the back of the swing at the top. I keep in my head trying to just wheelie overdo this big turn. and this big dramatic thing. But when I was seeing him, I was like, “Well, that doesn’t look that dramatic.” And I was seeing a front row and it was so effortless on the snap on the way down that I mean, it was a beautiful thing. It was there was only a thing I wish I could do that obviously I’m aiming towards but they make it look really really easy but then you see him you know hitting in like some of the rough was I mean it was it was one of the reasons why Bryson hit it into uh the hospitality area cuz he was hitting out of what looked like three foot long grass. I don’t even know what you call it. And um I mean they’re all human, you know, they’re they’re all human and it could be rough out there for anyone at any given moment.
You know, uh what’s funny, you talk about, you know, getting overly aggressive and that’s a lot of times where things do start to fall apart. Gary and I were playing last week and you know, I just I wasn’t feeling like I was playing my best golf and Gary literally just gave me like a reset thing. He was like, “Dude, go up there, relax, swing smooth, and just do what you know how to do.” And I was just like, “Man, that’s right.” Like I mean wasn’t that essentially what what sort of your little token of of whatever was for me?
That’s like one of the worst like saying like someone that wants help that’s just a basic like oh okay
but it’s so it’s so helpful because the driver wasn’t working and so I was trying to get more aggressive and more aggressive and and somebody who’s you know we Gary and I play a ton of golf together. We’re probably going to go play later on today. He’s seen my swing and he’s like, “Dude, it’s it’s not looking like the smooth, comfy, chill Dan that like I’m I’m used to seeing.” And it didn’t feel like that to me either.
I always go back to Ernie L’s, Freddy Couples, and VJ Singh up on the range just making it smooth, making it look pretty and it’s just all calmed and they’re very relaxed. And also Texas Forever, keep it weird. And I love Onion Creek out there. So Austin’s the best. Uh yeah. Well, you know, and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about the pros is they make it look simple, and it is. It is simple. We complicate it. That’s our own fault, but I mean, the just the it it’s fluid. It’s smooth. There’s nothing extra going on. It is just like this very streamlined process that makes you believe like, man, like maybe that’s in me somewhere. Like, maybe I could do that.
A lot of people aren’t completing the swing. It’s like make sure your hands end up over your left shoulder. Like that’s everybody decelerates through the ball, especially through chips. That’s why you see those little yips and it’s like that thing’s made of metal. Like just let it come through, have your hands in up high and you’re going to get the velocity which you need to get the ball to the hole. But nobody ever trusts the complete swing. They always are trying to like have
That’s because we all have trust issues.
Yeah. Unless you Gary Jeremiah, I appreciate you. We’ll uh let let you get back to your crazy busy Texas life. Uh thanks for jumping on and chatting with us. And um
absolutely, guys.
Dude, hopefully you have many air conditioned bathrooms in your future down there. Thank you guys. Take care. Be good. See you guys soon.
All right. Catch you later, man. Thank you.
Let’s go visit him. Let’s go play golf.
Let’s go.
Let’s go. Right now,
this week, one of the most controversial pro golfers in the game finally got himself a win at Live Golf. You know who I’m talking about, Gary.
Oh, good job, Patrick Reed. Patrick Reed,
that’s my guy.
He would be your guy.
You’re a big Patrick Reed guy, aren’t you?
Yeah, I like the villains. Uh, he’s a villain.
He’s um he’s had a bad rap over the last few years. There’s been some controversial moments that have sort of I don’t know tainted the perspective of uh him as a pro though he’s been I pretty influential in the golf world. Got a Mast’s win. He’s uh been a Ryder Cup team member. But his move to live golf I feel like was one of the final nails in the coffin for the people that were uh maybe borderline about their opinion on him.
Uh you know that they had to tell him to stop wearing Sunday red. Wait, really? What? That’s a thing.
He would literally wear black and red and a black hat and black shoes on Sunday. And it’s like, listen, you ovalshaped buffoon. You’re unable to wear that. That is tiger’s domain. You have to be a Vshape in order to wear that.
True question. Who has the power or right to tell somebody what color they can wear on which day?
I have no idea. But they basically told him that
on Wednesdays we wear pink
cuz he wore Nike. So he
he was he was full on
show Nike would be like listen
I I wonder stop I wonder if he wasn’t with Nike he would be able to do it.
Yeah probably
if he had like an Adidas red on
even worse. God just chuck him to the fire.
Uh well finally uh he’s it’s it’s sort of been looming over Patrick Reed’s head to get himself his first win on live golf. I mean obviously the guy plays well. we’ve been seeing him, you know, top 10 finisher in in several majors over the last year or two. Um, but can’t get it done on live golf, which to me is pretty surprising. Yeah.
It seems like if you’re going to be finishing, you know, I don’t know what it was, seventh or eighth at the Masters, but not getting it done at Live Golf. I that’s a little surprising to me. But here’s the other thing that’s surprising to me. Bryson Dambo doesn’t win a ton on live golf. And when we see him at the majors, I mean, he’s obviously one of the biggest guys to look out for.
What do you think that’s like
contributed to?
Yeah, contributed to.
You I don’t know. I mean, because then let’s look at the reverse of it. You got like a Wim Neman who dominates on Liv and then we haven’t seen any sort of special performance at a major out of him as well.
Has won any PGA events um before he went to live
or at all period.
Uh I don’t I don’t Oh, I don’t know what his PGA Tour win record was. So, do you think it has to do with the courses they play?
I don’t know.
Or maybe the travel cuz it seems like live they’re traveling across the world for everything, but not like the latest few. They were in the States, but once that travel and they come back, I mean,
I mean, but but let’s look at the reverse of it. I mean, you got guys like Justin Rose who don’t even live here in the States and he goes back and forth or Shane Lowry. So,
that’s crazy to me.
You know what I mean? So, I I I feel like I don’t know. I mean, these guys, their travel isn’t like us where they’re checking two bags at Southwest, you know what I mean? And hoping they got TSA pre-check. He does.
These guys are obviously getting on gigantic private jets. They don’t have to carry a thing. They’re brought right to their car that’s waiting on the tarmac and they’re brought to some luxury villa that they’re staying in for a few days.
You don’t get that? I get that.
No. No. Generally speaking, what I get is uh the the last row on Spirit Airlines and I’m trying to shove everything in a backpack so I don’t have to pay the extra 12 bucks.
Somebody’s almost fighting the flight attendant and you’re just like, “Be quiet, Dan. Be quiet.”
Oh my god. I listen when you economy travel you see a lot. That’s We’ll leave it at that. Thank you.
Uh but I don’t know. I’m not sure if you know how much travel you know is a factor for these guys because they’re traveling differently than any of us are familiar with.
Oh yeah. Uh I you know but either way Patrick Reed has sort of lived this this storied life and as you say Josh you like him because he’s the villain. It started way back in the day for him.
Yeah.
He was originally dismissed from the University of Georgia.
Um
for what
for allegations
of of
he was alleged by some of his teammates that he was potentially stealing from their lockers.
Oh wow. Yeah.
Um I don’t know that there’s any like stone cold proof. I don’t know if we’ve got like uh CCTV camera footage. Well, I don’t know. I don’t know if they got cameras in the locker room. Weird. You know what? That would probably be the bigger story if they’re like, “Well, we have footage from the locker room.
We have footage in the locker room.” Different website in a different category.
However, then he went over to Augusta State and helped his team win two national titles.
That’s I I think is that Georgia? That’s like the uh
That’s in Georgia.
That’s the master’s school. Yeah. Uh, not really. Um, I wonder though, you know, when when he leaves the school, heads over to a neighboring school, helps them win two national titles, they go, “Guys, he’ll, you know, we’ll replace the stuff. Just let him steal a little. Like, come on. We’re trying to get some wins here.”
Yeah, cuz he won twice, didn’t he?
Yeah. Two national titles. All right. Good for him.
Uh, goes on, makes his way onto the PGA Tour, ends up um winning himself a Mast’s. He’s got himself a green jacket. But in the process, there were some other controversies. And I see you had a photo up there,
Madina.
Uh club scoop gate or sand scoop gate.
Look at that. Oh yeah. Yeah.
Um this this it’s it’s definitely frowned upon.
A thing he did
as well as against the rules.
Yeah.
Uh he had the controversial moment where he was sort of swishing sand away from behind the ball. Now, it was an unfortunate situation because clearly he’s hitting out of like an unraded area. There’s you can see his ball is like deep in a footprint. You can almost see the the cleat marks.
What makes you think you could get away with that with 9 million eyes there?
Well, wasn’t wasn’t the controversy that it was considered a waste area, right? So, you’re allowed to ground the club, you’re just not allowed to improve the lie. Yeah.
So, right. It it that is a good point. So he the the the first part of the movement was allowed where he set the club down but then doing this like sort of sweeping up the garage movement behind it.
He he was in the correct area waist area.
Yeah. Well um but the albatross was cool.
Was is that what followed from that shot?
No.
No. He shot an albatross I think either at one of the majors is he was
at the PGA though. He he he made a 292 yard 3wood. Yeah, they rolled in really beautifully. See, so you like him.
I like albatrosses. I like albatrosses just like Louis in the Masters. That was a beautiful albatross also.
Um I don’t know. I I just I find I find this this sort of whole scenario though interesting where we see a certain level of performance in tour events and a certain level of performance in majors and they don’t always it’s not always the same. Like we said, Wim Nean doing well in his tour, not doing well at majors. Patrick Reed doing well in majors, but only finally getting his first win at live. So, to me, there’s like not like a clear set of like, oh, this causes that if we’re getting these opposite outcomes from guys.
It is weird.
It is weird.
There is no rhyme or reason.
I think the real thing that that’s slowing Patrick Reed down is his lack of use of Sunday Red. Put Put the guy in red. Come on. I was waiting for a comment from him. He got quiet.
He can’t.
He knows uh he knows the FCC watches the show and he doesn’t want to fight the get us banned from the planet. Um uh yeah, I don’t know. Good for Patrick Reed though. Would he lock in four million bucks?
Something like that. Yeah,
that’s not bad.
Yeah, that’s a good
I mean that listen the three days of tournament, couple two three days of practice, four million bucks. Not a bad day.
I know. I mean, you look at like Brooks Kepka um withdrew. Smashed the T- marker.
Nice.
Just mad. Complete full-blown angry. What did he get paid? Like 10 grand just for like leaving.
I think he actually got suspended, too. Did he really?
I I read something. I could be wrong, but it could have been a fake page, but I did read something saying that he was getting suspended for So, there are allegations.
Also, think about he breaks the tea, it explodes, the driver head comes up, he hits some little kid in the face.
This was different. Did you see it?
I didn’t see it yet.
So, it wasn’t like Rory’s where like when he bashed something, it kind of like exploded and didn’t go anywhere. No, like Rory smashed down. Keep more like hit it like a golf ball and like sent it.
Yeah.
And if you look if you kind of look here at the direction, there are a lot of people like
that that is a death zone to be in right there. The odds of him grow up.
The odds of him not hitting anyone is insane.
For how insane I am as a person. I don’t do that.
How many gloves do you think you’ll have to sign for that?
Oh man. He might have to give his bag.
Yeah, like take your polo off and sign it. Leave without a shirt on.
Give me your socks.
Maybe. Yeah. Sign his left shoe and he’s like hobbling away with one shoe on. I don’t know.
It’s uneven. Yeah, cuz you only got one shoe on.
It’s crazy. Depending on how bad you hit someone in golf means how much more stuff you’re going to give them. Is this the like I feel like we’re in this like era of anger right now. You too, huh?
I I’m just saying like watching these guys. Yeah. In golf in pro golf. I just, you know, obviously Oakmont was tough.
Oh yeah.
Uh but PGA Championship, Windham Clark, you know, the T-Mobile sign, stomping in the lockers, like the whole thing. Um I don’t know like is this happening more than usual?
I feel like it is now.
It is. I think it is. All these guys contracts are coming up.
Oh,
so wait, do you go on your worst behavior or your best behavior?
If you’re trying to get away, if you already got the money,
if you’re trying to play really good and get a nice resign.
Yeah. Well, it’s like the move as a kid. Like if I do a really bad job helping dad, he won’t ask me to help anymore, you know, kind of a thing. He also said he was not feeling good that day.
I’m sure he felt terrible after he did that
cuz I think before that he had two double bogey or two triple bogeies.
Wow. It was plus eight for nine or plus seven for nine.
Um, do we call
out? Don’t act like that.
Do we call this a full crash out moment?
Yeah, this is full crash out.
This is the crash out of the week.
Yeah,
I feel like Okay. Uh, brand new segment starting right now. It’s called Crash Out of the Week and Brooks Kevka gets the first prize.
Thank you.
Are we allowed to participate? Because I’m gonna win.
Uh, no, you’re not. Okay.
In here in this room, you can crash out, you know. Um, I don’t know. Like in your bedroom with the at the bunk beds and the
I can see him having bunk beds.
Yeah.
Holy child crashing out on the top bunk.
Okay. Yeah. Thank you. I don’t know. Whatever. Anyways.
Anyways, we have anything else about Patrick Reed?
No, we have nothing to talk about about him.
Uh, do we touch on the fact that in 2022 he sued Golf Channel and Brandle Shambbley for defamation? Yeah.
Uh for the quiet sum of $750 million. Um unfortunately, the judge said that the um it didn’t it failed to meet actual malice standards for a public figure. However, he did appeal that ruling and it is still pending as of July 2025. So, there is an open case technically speaking. technically, but it’s not going to be it’s that’s never going to get finalized. I feel like it’s gonna get just thrown under the rug. Shuffling it into the bottom of the stack. Have been such a nonfan of somebody in my whole life other than this guy.
Does that do you think that say like Liv gets bought by PGA Tour or something like live this man this bands? Uh he kind of screwed himself out of going back to the tour.
Well, I mean here’s the thing about the tour though is you were in your spot. you were in your spot.
Yeah, but can’t you get suspended?
Yeah, but suing Golf Channel and Brandle Shambbley should have no effect on that because they’re not affiliated with each other.
I didn’t know if they had some sort of tie in like your reputation and all that. They’re just like enjoy watching him open that monster.
He’s like he’s a bad apple. Get him out of here.
Get him out of here. We don’t want him. We don’t need him. like Sam.
If he could play on the tour and Wesley Bryant can’t, that’s a little messed up. They’re like,
“Get Ago Cabo over here to beat his wife again.” We
Oh my god.
This has been
And then he comes back and wins two majors like like right off the get, you know what I mean?
He won senior majors, didn’t he?
Yeah. All right, let’s talk about that real quick.
Senior majors.
Are they majors?
Yeah, senior wise. But like like to me like what makes the US Open a major is the fact that it is open to anyone on the planet. Anybody can qualify. Anybody can play in this
and it makes it a major. I It’s weird to me that it’s like well this is a major but it’s it’s like not for everybody and it’s like kind of like a limited major. It seems more like a minor.
It’s like when you go to white slow it down there.
I didn’t Okay. Okay. Do you get my point though?
Yeah, we got your point.
I get your point. Cuz uh uh it’s the same thing with bowling. There’s a PBA 50. No, I’m just It’s real quick. There’s a
Oh, god. No.
PB50. There’s a PBA tour and then a PBA 50. Same thing with golf. You know, you have your Champions Tour, which is basically like your your 50 tour, your old man tour.
Yeah.
And there’s never like telecast. At least there’s telecast for this.
Well, I mean, here’s the question. Like we’ve got like the US amateur.
They don’t call it a major.
Yeah. No,
but it’s a it it is a USGA event. It is the the culmination of the greatest amateurs out there and they compete and they have a winner, but it’s not a major.
I wonder if they won’t call it a major because it’s not pro golf.
Well, yeah, you’re not getting paid for that.
I But I’m just saying. So, like to have a senior major like I I don’t know. Like
I I mean I guess
it’s like when you go to White Castles and you’re a senior now they’re they’re less money. You get you get something for getting old
and you have major digestion issues after my god. That is a major. Okay. Technically, you’re right. That is a major.
Yeah, it’s a major.
I don’t know.
Um
that’s a major in my head. How about you?
The senior major is a major.
It’s a senior major, but it’s a sen it’s a major for seniors.
It’s it’s a major that like not everybody even wants to play in. So, it’s not a major to you.
So, here’s a question. Because seniors can play in regular majors
in real majors. Can non seniors play in senior majors? I don’t think I don’t think you could do that. Enlighten us, Josh.
I mean, there’s an age limit. There’s an age minimum.
Well, right, cuz they’re like, “Well, I’ll just play in the senior one, too, and win that.”
Actually, is there is there an age minimum for the
It’s like 55.
Is it 55?
Yeah. like for the champions tour like you you have to age into it.
Wow. Guys, what was going on in Detroit this weekend?
Some craziness.
We had course records left and right. Was it I I
five hole playoff. Are are golfers better than ever this week or was something different at the course? Because we saw it like left and right guys going unbelievably low and maybe just maybe Oakmont hardened these guys to a level where a standard playing TPC golf course is is so manageable they can go out and shoot a course record. I don’t know, maybe Oakmont’s to blame. But let’s run through this timeline here. Thursday, Minu Lee heads out, shoots nine under, drops a 63, tying the course record. Okay, nice. Previously held by uh Davis Thompson and Cameron Young. Nice. Join the list. Just a few hours later, uh our buddy Aldrich Piger Patrier. Okay, Pedraier. Why do I not know any of these names? I mean, Minui I obviously know because I picked him to win the way he won. But,
uh, well, Aldrich won. Um, but his last name is not winning because every time I read it, I don’t get it right.
Right.
He goes out and fires a 62 and sets a new course record. 10 under. All right. And then here’s another name you’ve never heard of in your life. Kevin Roy. Okay. Yeah. I don’t know if he joined the tour like seven minutes ago. also goes out and ties the brand new course record that was set just hours before. All right, very fun. Nice. Fast forward to Friday. Jake Knap dropping in some nap time. Bad dad joke.
He comes in and throws down a 61. So, we went tying the course record, setting a new course record, tying this new set course record to then beating that course record. That is some low, low golf. And the course has been around for a while. How are we all doing this on the same weekend? Is there a conspiracy here? Do we put our tin foil hats on? Anybody have a theory? Someone help me out.
Easy shot.
Which one? All all 61 of them
or No, I’m saying like easy course.
Easy course. But then it was it it was easy last year. It was easy the year before
this tournament. But they
at the same course at the same location.
Don’t they change the course up like year to year like move bunkers and and pin placement and stuff like that?
Um I did not hear of any like major renovations at this course, but there are pin placement changes. You know, they decide how much they want to let the rough grow and all this and that. Um, you know, how fast do they want the greens running? Are they like, you know, doing like Oakmont and like quad cutting them and then like rolling them down
with that with that plastic thing that they’d go and spin on the entire time or
Good question. Pin placement.
Yeah.
Does that change every day of the tournament or uh two days? Um, I believe most tournaments have have a daily pin change. So, they’ll be looking at four different pins
and a lot of times they are in similar areas year after year. So guys will know like, man, I love the Sunday pin placement at XYZ hole at whatever course.
Okay.
I mean, if we’re tin foil heading it, did PGA come down and just say, “All right, Oakmont was way too hard and uh we need some minus 22s out here.”
Yeah. Like just for like mental health, you know, it is mental health.
These guys are just, you know, destroyed at Oakmont.
We’re going to set the mowers to MUN,
right? You know what I mean? Like I listen, I don’t know. Uh-oh.
What’s up, losers? I’m back.
So, what was the deal at the Red Rocket Classic this weekend? We’re just not playing pro golf anymore. Just handing out coarse records like samples at Costco.
That wasn’t a tournament. It was a cry for fur greens and adult supervision. Jake Knap shoots a 72, then a 61, and no one called the police. Grow the rough. Move the pins. Break their spirits. or just call it what it is. Topgolf Detroit with walking and a dress code. It was so painful to watch. I got blacked out on box wine and tried to sell backyard divots as Detroit fairway souvenirs. Three people bought them. One was Gary. Anyway, I’m off to Detroit to resurface the greens with broken dreams and motor oil. Gizmo out.
All right. Gizmo out.
Fair enough. All right. Thank you, Gizmo, for your report. and um discussing you getting blacked out on box wine. I don’t even know where to go from there, you know.
How many box wines does it take to get blacked out of box?
Well, when you’re a grand total of 11 in tall, I’m not sure. N filtered.
Thank you. Uh he I do find this interesting. Jake Knap also set a a new PGA Tour record. Okay. He is the first player in history to shoot a 59 and a 61 or better in the same season.
Wow.
Same season, not
Yeah. within the same calendar year of golf. That’s cool. Is it calendar? Like what is the season of golf?
You know what? Nobody knows because soon as the championship ends, they have a tournament the next week, but it’s a part of it’s not a part of next year and it’s not a part of last year, but you do get points.
Is the falls different? Yeah, the FedEx Cup fall. It’s a lot of guys because again they’re trying to get points in the fall to keep their tour cards. So it helps towards next year but it’s based on last year.
I don’t know. Isn’t the American Century kind of like the kickoff?
Um the celebrity golf tournament that no pros play at.
Mhm.
I think that’s No, that’s in December.
Oh, are you the American Express? I think so.
The American Century is the celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe and that’s next week. The American Express is in January. Whatever.
Gary,
the kickoff for me is the Masters. That’s when the golf season starts. Anything before that’s a warm-up.
True.
Well, when’s the players? Is the players after Masters?
Is that usually September 13thish?
Uh, no. The players already happened and Okay, listen. Well, you know what we need is like Rainman who like knows dates and facts and information
because I feel like the I feel like they play all fall when it doesn’t matter and then it goes into like winter and then then the spring
and then they take a break and then we get a little TGL
and Yeah. Yeah. Well, you get a little bit of both.
But but it but it’s not even that big of a break. It’s like a couple weeks.
I think TGL needs points. Like instead of FedEx got points, it’s like Kinko’s points or something.
I think Liv needs points before TGL gets points.
All right, fine. Third.
Wait, Liv does get points.
Um, okay. Rich is talking about points that matter.
Oh.
Um.
Oh,
no. Like in terms of, you know,
Oh, WGR. That’s That’s what I mean. Yes. Official World Golf Resorts. But there is uh now Liv does have a new exemption path to um bring players into the majors,
which is awesome. So, we do have Sergio Garcia is going to be playing in the Open due to his performance on Live Golf. So, are we getting closer?
The US Open,
the the British Open. Thank you.
I didn’t know which one it was.
Yeah, you have to clarify. There’s a lot of
It’s so weird. Like, one’s just the Open, one’s the US Open. Like, they got to do something there.
Well, and it’s funny because people online will crucify you and then the broadcasters say it,
right?
It’s like, um, I’m sorry, this guy in Instagram is more right than the TV. I also feel like we have a rule on the show where it’s the British Open.
It’s the British Open. It’s the British Open. It is the British. There’s British Airways. It’s not just called Airways. No.
Like I’m flying on Airways. The Airways. Got a first class ticket on the Airways. Which Airways is that?
The Airways. Uh so maybe we’re getting closer. Maybe it’s all going to be solved soon. I don’t know. Ask Jake Knap. All right. Maybe he knows. This guy’s breaking records left and right. It It does It does blow my mind though that he goes out and shoots like 7261 and you get guys like Scotty Sheffller who are obviously on top of the world in golf where he’s not throwing out there the the 61s, but he’s also not throwing out the 72s. He’s sort of like in this middle ground of just consistent to win. So, are you saying Nap’s a streaky golfer? I would say there’s some streaks in the nap. And clearly I would say one of those routes gets you more wins than the other.
Yeah. Because if you’re if you’re only shooting minus 11 when you shoot even and then minus 11,
right? Then you’re like go like two over and then minus 11. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know.
Do you feel D Shambo’s kind of streaky? Um, yeah,
like I feel like he’s always in the hunt, but yet he’s still streaky, which I don’t know how you can be both.
That’s a really, really good point.
And it’s so tough with Dashambo because there’s always like this new thing he’s doing, trying, adding that could lead to a phenomenal streak
or a not phenomenal streak.
I feel like he’s on Friday on the practice round trying new drivers. Oh, yeah. I mean, that was him at the Masters. He even said it himself. He said, “I’m still looking for the perfect head.”
Right.
I mean, those were his words.
Those were his words.
That’s true.
Um,
between salty balls and the perfect head, you know?
Yeah. I don’t know. I’ve discovered that sometimes.
I wonder if he’s going to work on a shafts next.
Uh, I I heard this this interesting sort of take and that what they were talking about is if we look at the the number one putter on PJ Tour, most strokes gained in putting. Okay. And then we look at his putting stroke and the way he moves the club to the ball. Borderline perfection. And then we go over and look at the world championship of putt putt golf.
Oh.
Oh yeah.
And these guys take these wildly different putt strokes and it’s like they come back a little and then they go through the ball like a mile and and like they’re standing and they’re not even squared up.
No. and right like their feet are like on a crazy angle and they’re all hunched over like uh you know I don’t know Ben Hogan or something like that over the ball. What does one guy know that the other guy doesn’t know or that they’re not willing to consider? Cuz how are you going to have the best putter on the PGA Tour have a stroke that is wildly different than the world champion of putting sports?
Have you seen the putting world championships or like highly competitive putt putt? They’re like hitting it hard on purpose. So like especially a hole that’s like this where like the hole’s in the middle. They’re hitting the wall on purpose just to start banking it and then it somehow goes in.
I Well, but it’s always strategy. I mean those guys aren’t like like what we do where you just like jam one down the clown’s mouth and like hope it goes in.
And there’s courses it seems like they’re playing on concrete.
I have seen that like where it doesn’t even look like turf.
Yeah.
Well, so the it’s like Oakmont practice basically. So here’s a question. Do you think maybe it’s because they do the they want to do the same stroke every time and there’s a lot of times that the ball could be buried up against a wall so they can’t do a full stroke. So maybe they just have to they just like I have a stroke that works no matter how close I am to the windmill. Yes,
that’s a good point.
Like I don’t know. I was reading the comments and there some guys were debating this this idea of these two different putting strokes and uh one of the comments was like don’t worry Bryson will try it soon enough like wow
that’s funny
out of nowhere just total shots fired it is crazy with last week’s Rocket Classic really you look T4 is Nap and then T8’s Morawa and you got Fitzpatrick that’s also T8 but that I mean that’s not a lot of big names all the way down through eight. Yeah, a lot of times, and I know this is sad to say, that um I over the course of the weekend, I check the PJ Tour app to see standings and then if it starts to look exciting, then I try and jump on and watch the final round on Sunday or at least the back half of it or whatever, you know, whenever I have house projects to do, you know, get back from Home Depot,
honey duplex.
Yeah. Uh I I kept looking at that leaderboard and never found myself like super enticed to tune in. However, I completely missed out because they went into a fivehole playoff, which I think is always fun to watch.
Yeah, that is fun.
It is fun.
So, cuz I didn’t see the playoff. So, it the they had to play five holes to win that. They did. Uh so, it it kind of to take you back a little little trip down Sunday’s memory lane. We had three players that went into a playoff um after. And so, we had Josh, help me with this name. I’m going to screw it up every time.
Who? Deep Meer.
Aldrich. Oh, Poter.
Poter. Thank you. Because you read that name and it doesn’t look like that. Aldrich poter. We had Max Graceman. Grac anybody here?
You’re like me with the name,
dude. I really am, Josh. If not worse. And who was the last one? Kirk. Chris Kirk.
Chris Kirk. That one was easy.
Chris Kirk. Yeah, I can fumble my way through that one. He’s in it for like two rounds of the playoff. He’s out. Misses a stroke, whatever. Now we’re down to these two guys and they keep going at it for three more holes and f but here’s the greatest part. The two guys that were in the final stretch of the playoff, both of them were trying to get their first PGA tour win. So you got two guys that want this probably more than most anybody out there and keep going and going and going. You think about it. If a round of golf is 18 holes, you’re playing five extra holes. You’re looking at like almost 30% more golf to your round.
Nice.
Yeah. Total bonus.
Let’s go.
Almost. That’s kind of ideal. You know, it’s good to play more golf. I don’t know.
I I’ll say it seemed like no one wanted to make a putt, though.
Yeah. That’s what But and none of them were missing like super easy putts. They were all like testers.
Yeah. Like over and over. But nobody had that moment of just drilling this like long incredible this is how you win it putt. You know like a JJ Spawn moment out at Oakmont.
Gary good putt.
Like a Gary good putt like he just drills it from two and a half feet. Four.
Four. I don’t know.
All right. I have some fun stats.
All right. Go ahead. Stat me up Rich.
According to the stat
according to the GPT so it’s verified.
Okay. How many times do we think there has been a three person playoff in the PGA?
I’m saying and now this is for majors.
Oh, majors only, not tour events.
Yeah. Yeah.
Oh. Um, do we have a uh just kind of since forever?
Since 1939 was the first one. Oh, wow.
I’m saying about like 12 12
20 20. Gary’s Gary’s not talking today. Four. Gotcha. Four. He’s doing sign language on a radio show. Nice. So, the answer is six.
Really? Yeah. Two off.
[ __ ]
39 78 94 uh 04 15 and 25.
Yep. There’s not too many.
Every time Gary guess too off,
but I mean the rocket mortgage isn’t a major, but it included it in here. So, I don’t know.
Well, you know,
I mean it’s not wrong. It’s not what you asked, but it’s not wrong. The players isn’t a major either.
It sort of is a
The PJ tour would like it to be though.
They try and like lie and like, yeah, it is.
It’s basically a major.
Like, oh, it’s a major for only one tour. Nice.
So, here’s a here’s a question for you.
All right. How many people have been in a playoff at once? Like the most?
All right, Gary, go ahead. Well, I got to go first. I won. I should get to pick last.
Just like when we do our picks, it’s the same thing. Eight. Nine. [Music] [Laughter] Six. Are you looking over my shoulder?
I I only saw the players.
Uh, six.
He was off by two.
Incorrect.
Three.
Three. Gary.
Could you imagine a nine person playoff? It’s six people and it’s happened three times.
Wow.
Yeah. Oh, six people.
Six people in a
six person playoff. That’s wild.
That’s a lot of people, man.
That is a lot. Well, now I mean here’s the thing because now you have a six some which is like almost like, you know, a little frowned upon.
Way good time.
Like listen, two of you guys you get like the ranger is going to come over and get going. Hurry up, guys.
The ranger came over and yelled at us. I go, listen, I got permission for this five something. And he goes, “Okay, fine. But if I get a call,” I’m like, “But I got another guy coming.” He’s like, “No, you can’t have six.” He goes, “I gave you five.” I’m like, “Okay, I’m sorry.”
Well, what’s the point of having five and not have six? It’s not like you’re adding
We were going to do We’re going to do a 3v3 scramble, so technically we would have been quick, but you just can’t have it. Yeah. I don’t know why that’s not a thing. They should allow that
because cuz it’s still not fast.
It’s not fast. Do you remember when we were over at Tippy and we had eight going on the hole?
Yes.
Yeah. I feel like we got through the first We got through the first four holes. Let me let me tell you why I think scramble is not necessarily faster even though people think it is. Because if I’m watching you across the fairway setting up for your shot, I’m also setting up for mine. And when you take your shot and you’re watching it, I step in and move forward and take mine as opposed to you finish taking your shot, you move out of the way. Now I drop my ball there and then I sort of set up from scratch. I feel like the next shot happens quicker in standard play format as opposed to the amount of time it takes in a scramble format for the next person to take their shot.
But it definitely helps when somebody is just an ace and they’re on fire that we just don’t even take those other shots. That is true. Like when people are just like beautiful drive back in the car. Yeah. And plus too grabbing your ball. Yeah. You’re whizzing all around.
I am the Never mind.
Thank you.
I was going to say I’m the master ball grabber, but I really am. Oh wow. I knew that was coming. I knew that was coming.
Call the Ranger.
I mean,
bring him back over. Rich was my cart princess. He knows what it’s all about.
I I am the best cart princess ever.
Cart.
Don’t do anything. Not a thing.
Oh jeez.
He’s asked twice. Yeah,
Gary’s Fbombs twice.
We are going to get this live band, right?
Oh. Oh, I forgot about lives. Well, I’ll try and remember.
Yeah, I will.
It’s only the third week we’ve been doing in a row.
My bad. Have the tours solved the pace of play issue?
No.
Well, I think they’re taking a step closer by embarrassing people, and I love that.
I do love it.
I do. I I think there needs to be more public shaming in life and in golf.
In life.
And in golf. Uh where now what we are doing is running a shot clock to see players that are overtime and then they’re posting it and we’re letting everybody look at it.
Look at that. Majestic. I love it.
I love it.
I’m here for it.
Bryson’s also talking about how he loves it, too.
Well, I
You got to do what you got to do at this point.
You got to do something. I mean, Bryson, like he even says he st, you know, he was on I was listening to him on some podcast and he’s like, I get criticized a lot for slow play. He goes, I want everybody to know. He was like, the most I’ve ever had was a warning. He goes, but I have never been penalized for it. Never once. So he’s like when when you look at the the people who are the problem, he goes, “I’ve never even once had a full-blown issue over
who’s got the most.” Probably like Kevin Na or Sergio.
Uh I don’t know.
But do you know who definitely isn’t?
Levig Oberg.
Oh, dude. He’s He’s fast.
He goes over the ball and swings before you even see it. Who’s faster, me or him? He’s better though, obviously. Um I he like when he swings I don’t I didn’t know that that was going to be the swing cuz I thought he was still getting ready like Yeah. Like he like steps up, kind of waggles a little and goes and then you look at some guys where like they do a waggle and then like almost a real swing and then they check their position and then they check the win and they check their watch and then they check their Instagram, you know? This guy’s just like, you know, whoosh.
Yeah, for real. I when he swings, I didn’t think that was going to be the real swing yet. It it it happened so quick.
I would say on the reverse side of it would be guys like Patrick Kentlay.
Yeah.
Yeah. He takes his time. He’s he’s got like schematics out and you know, I mean, he’s he’s doing like real time long form math, carry the one, you know,
anybody that does that thing over the putts.
So Bryson’s bragging about uh he’s never been penalized, you know, he’s just got the warning or whatever. According to this, there’s been zero penalties in the PGA since 2017.
Oh, well then it’s not a problem. So, there’s nothing to worry about.
On the back.
Yeah.
Well, I haven’t been penalized. Yeah, nobody has. Literally, nobody has.
I feel like before this whole talk about pace of play was even a thing, no one even questioned it. There was no no slow play penalties. Like, it’s almost like the more it’s been talked about, the worse it’s got. Or is it the worst it’s got or just the more we notice it’s got?
Well, you know what it is? Um, it’s our our our microscopic attention spans like just hit the ball. Just do something is ruining all of our lives. We’re just like, “Somebody swing. Somebody swing. Somebody swing. Hurry, hurry, hurry.” The Beetlejuice effect.
As soon as you hear it now, you see it and it’s just like
Beetlejuice effect.
Yeah.
Wow.
You ever see that movie?
It’s an interesting term. I like it.
You ever seen Beetlejuice?
No.
Oh, wow. You
really haven’t? A
you make me so mad with your bull crap.
I I do feel though
the broadcasts are getting better at showing more shots.
That’s true. Like less time of these guys doing math and more time of somebody just hitting a ball.
Hit the ball, bam, cut, hit the ball, bam, cut, hit the ball. I don’t I don’t think it’s necessary pace of play. I think it’s more cameras and better better guy in the truck. Whoever’s go to A, go to B, go to C. All right, go to guy swinging again and then go to a guy swinging replay of this long putt, you know, replay again.
What really does help though is having those feature groups. Yes,
cuz even though they’re not like say they’re walking, all of them finish their t-shot, they’re walking, they’re switching to a different thing for a second until they get over the ball. That’s totally what I’m talking about. You guys uh obviously know Dan Rapaort. He’s uh one of the the big commentators in the world of golf. Uh he brought up a great point and I never caught this but now I can’t unhear it. Yes.
He was like I want the broadcasters to stop saying just moments ago.
Yeah, I heard that.
He was like just just show it. Like we don’t know what was we’re at home. We don’t know. Like why do we care that this was 11 seconds ago or not? Just show it.
Not going to lie though.
Now we’re going to go to Marawa on 16. Boom. Don’t have to say moments ago Mara on 16. Like show it. Just do When they would say that, my dad be like, “This is going to be a good shot.” Because they only say just moments ago when it’s a good shot.
Oo. They’re like tipping their hand.
Yeah. It’s like just moments ago and it’s like, “Oh, what shot did he just pull off?” Cuz like every time they say that it’s a good shot.
So does that mean there’s actually a crowd that prefers it? Like it’s like, “Hey, we like it’s it’s kind of letting me know, pay attention here.”
Well, that’s how I grew up. Like my dad would be like, “Oh, just moments ago, watch this one, G.” I’ll be like, “Oh, okay.” And like that’s just something that
they’re click baiting
kind of. I guess
you got to blow my nose. But I I also feel like they’re s cuz I heard the Dan thing when he said that.
Yeah.
And then I started listening for it cuz you have to. But now I still listen for it and I feel they’re saying it less and less and less.
Did he move the needle?
I think he moved the needle. Well, you know what that is? That that is a sign of power,
right? Power.
I want it.
It is.
I want it. You say something on on TikTok and the broadcast makes the adjustment. Well, I mean it it makes sense, right? Cuz they’re trying to make adjustments. They’re trying to make golf better for everybody.
True.
Like
they’re listening to the feedback%.
They’re checking the comments section,
you know. They heard him say that.
They’re reading the reviews.
What do you want to fix? Say it. Let’s see if you got the power. Josh,
what?
Say say something. So maybe Yeah. We’re going to test your power versus Dan Raports. Say something they should fix and we’ll see if they do. They need to fix Tiger Wood’s body so he could play again.
All right. If he shows up next week at the at the god knows what he comes out with like this like nice. Wow. I think it’s John Deere Classic next week.
John Deere Classic.
Are we going to go?
Um I don’t know. I’m I’m It’s TBD for me.
I’m going to go.
I’m not 100% sure.
It’s over a holiday weekend. It’s tough.
I’m going to go
John your classic Quad Cities out like the Illinois uh Iowa border. You know,
play your favorite course, Fire Lake after.
Nice. Um,
you hit some cards.
I mean, listen guys, obviously I’m a John Deere Classic fan. I mean,
oh, well, yeah. That was your first tournament you ever kind of went to. And
yeah, my first ever like legitimate media credential.
Yeah.
Ever. I love the story about your sign.
It’s a great story, but I’m going to save it. All right.
Even though would be the week for it.
It’ be fitting to tell it to this week.
All right. Fine. So, here I am. John Deere Classic. My first ever media pass. And I’m so pumped because they didn’t just like put my name on it. They put Dan’s Golf World on it, which is like seven times more exciting. And at the end of the tournament, I go over to like one of the heads in the media center and here I am like just trying not to get kicked out. Like I don’t know what I don’t even know what you’re supposed to be doing in these things. Uh I’m like, “Hey, uh what do you guys do with these signs? Like when you’re done? You going to like throw them out?” Like and he was like, “Why do you do you like want it? Like I don’t know. Why are you asking? No, literally no one’s ever asked this before.” And I was like, “Well, yeah. I mean, I just think it’d be kind of cool.” He’s like, “Well, usually we just save them and then, you know, next year if the same organization comes back, we just put it back out so we don’t have to make new ones.” And I was like, “Well, can I have mine?” And he was like, “What are you going to do with it?” I was like, “Well, I’m going to put it on my desk and it’ll be a part of like my show and my TikTok lives and everything.” And he was like,
“Yeah, I guess, but will you do me a favor? Like, if you come back next year, will you just bring it with you?” I was like, “Yeah, no. I’ll bring it back.” Like, that is the That is the
That’s great. That’s funny.
That is hilarious.
Yeah. I’ll I’ll bring my sign back.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Didn’t do nothing.
I I I do have a special place in my heart for the John Deere Classic.
Speaking of Josh, you did a little bit of a deep dive into uh TPC Deer Run.
Gorgeous.
Um which I think is is kind of fun because it’s obviously the John Deere Classic is clearly sponsored by John Deere. It is mere moments away from the John Deere world headquarters. And I found one of the most interesting parts was when I went there and I go to my get the email. Where do you go park? Where do you pick up your credentials? The parking for the media was in the parking lot of the world headquarters. So you actually drive to John Deere’s like giant place and then from there you jump into Alexis and then somebody drives you over to the course. Found it kind of cool. Anyway, Josh, what’d you find? Okay. So, uh, John Deere Classic has had John Deere and company as a title sponsor since 1998. And I have a question for you guys.
Okay.
Out of because it’s one of the longest lasting sponsors like throughout time for golf. Uh, what do you guys think is the one that’s above it?
Like longer like a longer running.
Longer running sponsor. Red Rocket Mortgage Classic. I’m going with Rolex at Masters. What do you got, G?
Uh, mine was a throwaway answer because I wanted to say Red Rocket, by the way. I just say this because I’m saying it Motorola.
No, it’s a AT&T Pebble Beach Pro.
Oh.
Oh,
because uh John Deere Classic was dear company in 1998 and AT&T Pebble Beach Prom has been AT&T since 1986. just great year.
Is Rolex not count because it’s not like the main sponsor? It’s not like the Rolex Master,
not a PGA.
Well, also I don’t know how long they’ve been doing it because sponsors were like sort of like a an evolution that came later on.
Yeah.
Um at the Masters, it was originally like a zero sponsor event. I Yes. I don’t know. I don’t know the history on that.
So, this tournament moved to TPC Deerrun in 2000. Nice.
Uh and the course was built specifically for the event. Constructed on land, owned by the deer family, built using John Deere equipment.
Beautiful. It is in the soul of this golf course. And now fast forward to this year, June 2025. We’re in July now.
Thank you.
Deer renewed its title sponsorship through 2030.
2030.
Yes.
Wow.
Reinforces a long-term commitment to both the tournament and the course. Estimated value of that sponsorship 15 to 20 million annually covering naming rights, marketing, and official supplier roles as well as the delivery of the gigantic golf ball with the John Deere logo.
It’s a beautiful course.
Do do we think that that picture they actually hit that ball?
You can. Yeah, they they have pieces where you could spin it and it’ll hit a ball.
Um, no. I mean, like the full-on backhoe that they have there. Okay. Kind of, but kind of.
Okay. Not this one, but they have a mini excavator off to the side.
Oh, yeah.
And you actually get to take your turn driving it and spinning it and hitting the ball.
That’s awesome. How far does it go?
Uh, it’s like in like a fenced in area and it’s kind of like a beach on your
hands in your hand.
Thank you.
You guys want to know some more facts?
Yes. So, Deer is the official golf course equipment supplier for the PGA Tour and the TPC network. So, everything on the PGA Tour and then all the TPCs.
Oh, they got that locked in.
Supplies include utility vehicles, mowers, tractors, and leasing services.
So, here’s a question. Do you think this 15 to 20 million they spend annually they make right back by supplying all the equipment to all the other TPCs? And not even
because they buy the equipment from they’re not to them.
Yeah.
I don’t know.
Not even including
so technically it’s free. Okay. You know what? Nice. Good move. Slick.
Yeah. And the economic and community impact is insane for this. Here’s what’s wild to me though. That John Deere owns the land. They build TBC Deer Run on it and then they have to pay to sponsor the event on the land that they gave them in the first place. It’s like you you like hey can I can I whatever borrow your something and then I don’t know I charge you back for handing it back to you like logic I don’t know terrible example I have no idea
it does great for the community though
which one the Quad Cities all four of them
yeah it generates an estimated uh 70 million a year for the Quad Cities economy
nice
and then uh since 1998 the event has raised over $180 89 million for charity.
Plus, you go down the street and lose all your money at the casino because it’s right down the street from there.
Uh, I did that this year when I was there. Yeah. Well,
I did too.
So, here’s a question. As far as like the John Deere Classic goes, like I don’t feel like just judging by who’s playing it this week, I’m not seeing a crazy lot of like big names.
Ricky’s down there though. Yeah. I did Ricky’s
You bring up an interesting point.
Oh man, are we into that moment right now?
No. Well, I’m just saying like really
really
I mean like Ben Griff Ben Griffith’s favored to win.
Yeah, that should be
Well, if Ben Griffin anybody else plays like
No, I’m saying Ben Griffin is like playing his best golf right now. Like Ben Ben Griffin is in contention in the majors. He’s winning signature events. I mean, what what do you think? Zack Johnson’s gonna go out there and take down Ben Griffin. I doubt it.
Mroyy’s not playing.
Z none of the big names not playing.
It is definitely at whatever the opposite of a signature event is.
Yeah.
Like a
How do they determine what it it like who’s going to play these event?
I Well, I think these guys they look at they look at the tour schedule and then they build their own schedule and they’re like, “This doesn’t have as many FedEx cup points. It doesn’t have a gigantic purse and it’s a holiday weekend. You know, I might go get some corn dogs and go to the fair.
It’s corn dogs.
I I think I might skip TPC Deer Run at the John Deere Classic.
I like
though. It’s a great event.
It’s a $9.6 million purse for everyone to split.
Oh, wait. No, I’m sorry.
7.
I’m sorry. That was for the Rocket Classic.
It’s like a seven something.
Uh 84.
84. Okay. Went up a little. John Deere kicked in a little extra. Yeah,
it’s fine. Good. They could afford to. I’ve seen the world headquarters. I parked there.
I parked there.
Yeah.
Is it big?
It’s It is huge. It is. It is a gigantically well-moed campus.
Is it big?
Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, Se Kim seventh overall favorite. Well, there’s a lot of big Seaw Woo guys out there.
I know. One of uh Jordan Speed’s breakout wins in his career came from the John Deere Classic
when he chipped it in.
Thank you. from the sand. Have you ever been to that tournament? Like during tournament play,
John Deere, I played it after with the stands up probably like 10 times though.
That’s kind of fun.
It’s really fun.
Do you like hear the crowd like in your mind? You’re like,
it’s the voices or the crowd.
It’s got to be a loud hit when you hit it in the
crowd. He says, “Let’s go Gary.” I’m like, “Yeah, thank you.” And keepers looking at me like, “Why isn’t this guy hit yet? He’s waving at nobody.” Hey G, how loud was it when you hit it in the stands?
Um, I didn’t do that.
He goes over and signs a glove and leaves it. Fair enough.
Ricky Fowler’s plus 5,000. All right, let’s look at these stats. Yeah,
he’s playing. He’s just his golf’s not there right now.
I wish it was. I love me some Ricky Fowler. He’s a lot of fun to watch. He’s a great sort of character and personality for the world of golf. Wear an all orange.
Sunday orange. That’s the color you wear on Sunday. There is no better color to wear on a Sunday than orange. All of us are staring at Gary to see what the response is. He gets up and walks away.
Gary quit the show. It was so offensive. Oh my god.
I quit the show.
I’m out. I’m back.
But I mean like how awesome. like Ricky Fowler being in the um uh ah my mind just went blank on it. The the the team one the
the cup. Yes. Yes.
Like he’s not playing good enough to golf to do it, but it’s so much fun to have him there.
But we love Ricky,
right?
I’ll pick Ricky over Patrick Reed any day. Okay. I mean,
don’t you okay me?
I No, I don’t know. Well, like I like Ricky, so I’m trying not to be rude cuz I like him and Right.
So, you know,
I’ll be the one playing better golf than him. Do you agree with that statement, Gary? Yeah.
Do you agree with that statement, Gary?
No, cuz you never know if he’s just been done cheating. Yeah. Like, could you even count that score?
Oh, Reed’s cheating.
P Reed.
I missed.
There was some scandals in the past. um we talked about it a little bit earlier on the show, but um where he was like moving sand from behind the ball and things. There was another one where it wasn’t a sand trap, it was a hazard. Yeah,
thank you. There was also another one where there was like a ball like embedded into a tree
and then they but then they found it or something and then he said that was my ball and they’re like no it wasn’t because we he’s whatever. I don’t know. There’s a lot of So again, Gary’s point being can you even count that score? No, it’s fair. It’s fair. I don’t know.
Wow. I got agreed with.
All right. Nice.
Hey, did you guys hear this story that Grant Horvad just told?
Love Grant. He was uh when he went down and played the Cornferry Tour event, he flew in. He said he flew in right from the DS match at Live Golf. Landed at the Cornfairy Tour event. And when he landed, they he said they flew him in. when he landed, he was appointed two um we’ll call them welle equipped security detail personnel to um shadow him for the entire duration of the weekend. He said one of them was like a Navy Seal, the other one was like, you know, a Marine, something like that. And he said he goes and first of all it was highly unnecessary. He’s like I I you know, fans are great. He’s all over the place, guys everywhere. Not worried about it. They wanted to make sure that now that the corn ferry tour actually cornfy tour actually had a giant celebrity playing in one of their events. They wanted to make sure he was protected well. Uh they head from the airport back to the Airbnb where he’s staying. One of his friends, another golfer was already at the house staying there. And apparently there’s a little miscommunication. He didn’t tell the private security that there may or may not be other people in the house already. He didn’t tell the people in the house already that there might be uh wellarmed assassins,
tactical security men coming into the house to
warrior assassins.
So he’s like, “We get there, we pull up and these two guys like wait before you go and we got to clear the joint.” Kind of doing all those moves. They head in. They’re like clearing rooms, doing the whole thing. Go up the stairs, kick open a bedroom door. Grant, is there supposed to be people in here?
He was like, “Yeah, it’s my friend and his wife. They’re sleeping.” Like, what are you doing?
I would love to do that.
And they’re like,
“So, they’re fine.”
Yeah. We’re good. Put the safety back on.
He even said they had like big huge like they were with pistols. Like, did you did you say partner?
Uh, was it his playing partner? Is that what it was? Oh,
talk about setting a vibe.
Uh, yes. I guess it all worked out and everybody was fine, but I could only imagine I’m sleeping in an Airbnb, got your wife by your side, you’re waiting for your buddy Grand Horvat to show up, and here comes Seal Team Six, just stomping up the stairs in their boots. If I wasn’t like on a golf trip at any normal time, I’d be like, “Come on, I won no matter what. Come in. Come on in.” Um, what other players do you think have because we’ve never heard that story before. Who else is getting that that we don’t even know about that they’re like clearing the Airbnb or the house before like they go in and play?
Well, my favorite story was Tiger and you know they
he clears his own house. We’ve seen him. He does the drills.
There’s a guy with a and the falls out of the guy’s hand.
We were avoiding that word if you notice throughout vague descriptions.
Oh gosh.
Thank you.
You know, so it falls on the ground and Stevie goes Tiger just did this. He looked at it and goes and just kept going and it and he’s like, “Dude, Tiger, you all right?” Like, you know, he just had a guy with a pew pew. He’s like, that was his mentality. He’s like, “There’s nothing I could do about it. It’s over. It’s done. Moving on to the next thing.” And that was Tiger’s mentality. And it’s amazing. So, do you think Seal Team Six goes and clears his house?
Possibly.
Probably. There’s probably like 11 of them. They come up in like a SWAT truck
or like a Brinks. He used to hang out with the the seals and that was like his like his buddies back in the day and he would go through Halo jumps and K houses.
Yes, practice houses.
Yeah, practice houses. God forbid.
Little fun stats about the uh corn corny event that he played. He finished 72, one over par and guess how much money he won. I’m just staring at it.
I I can’t.
Thank you, Richard.
He doesn’t count. He can’t even weed. Making fun of a little daddy.
Big daddy reference.
Yeah, just making sure we’re clear.
Yeah, 100%. We’re not big daddy. How much did he Madison? How much making fun of a little kid trying to read? Do you have no soul? Are you insane?
That’s a different quote. That’s a different story.
What did you say?
I said he doesn’t count. He can’t even weed. Darn it. You’re right. Because they because they vote. He’s making a vote on whether he has to go to the bathroom or go to bed or not. Yeah. Yeah. He doesn’t count. He doesn’t even know how to weed.
Uh, how much did How much did Grant Horvette win at the corner tour? Um, I think No, no. I think I know this.
I think it was a uh
If you know, don’t say, let me know.
No, no, no, no. A $75 gift card to uh Bed Bath and Beyond.
I thought it was a $20 rebate from Blockbuster.
Aren’t they closed now?
Yes. It’s not even valid. That’s what makes it funny.
I’m guessing Zippo Zero. Gary, you got you got a guess?
Like like two grand in credit?
140 bucks adventure. Adventure also closed.
140 bucks.
Did he Did he really?
He earned $140 for his performance.
Like, could you imagine like, “Hey, we need you to come in here and sell this W9.” He’s just like, “I I can I not That probably didn’t even cover his round. It probably didn’t cover
they have to pay for their rounds, right? Um when he’s invited in for something like I I I guess I don’t know. I have no idea.
But the regular tour guys do, right?
I’ll tell you what though, his security detail probably costs 70 times as much as that for him to show up and play.
Does he have to W2 that cuz it’s less than like 900, right? Isn’t it have to be like 600 or 700 for a W?
Well, because his illustrious career is just taking off, he will be W9 by the end of the year.
Well, here’s the thing though. I do know there’s a loophole. If they put it in a birthday card, then he can just receive it free and clear and everything’s fine. So stupid.
It’s hilarious.
So funny though. Yeah. All right. Hey, um
I want to go into this new segment we’ve been doing cuz I love it. It’s fun. We’re talking about shot of the week.
Nice.
It’s kind of a great way. I mean, there’s a lot of tours going on.
We got golf going on everywhere. And uh we pulled a couple a couple here that we got to take a look at. Josh, let him roll if you can. All right, we got Gary Woodland over here on the second hole, the first round of the rocket. Out of the bunker, into the hole. Listen guys, I don’t care what you say, Gary Woodland still got it. This guy’s dialed. He’s one of my guys, and hopefully we’ll get him on the show here at some point. One of the beautiful things about that last shot was also it like it had good speed going into the cup.
It wasn’t like it crushed the pin and like fell in, you know?
It looked like a confident putt, right?
You know what I mean? It had a little momentum, not too much. If it goes by the hole, it’s still a makeable putt. All right, next we got our guy we were just talking about, Mr. Ben Griffin. He’s kind of the star of the show these days. I don’t even think he looks at the ball when he hits it. Sends it up. A little couple two hops right in the hole. Look at that.
Is that an eagle?
That was for Was that for eagle?
Yeah, you got a two on a four. That’s an eagle. Gary. Gary. Gary. Nice.
What? What? What? Sorry to wake you. We’re doing a show.
I was kidding.
That’s why he’s got his glasses on. He can’t tell if he’s sleeping or not. All right, let’s see our last one here from Ben on
like home or an as Josh would say. Look at this. His second shot of par four sends. Oh, these are my favorite.
Pass the hole. Rips it back. Putting English on the ball like no other. Rich, are you ripping your wedges back 12 feet from behind the hole like that? Just I got to know.
And and then also tell us your secret to doing so. So, the way you do it is you hit the button that says backspin.
Yeah. And then you pull it back. You pull it back and just wham.
Yeah. Wow. All right. Those are some good shots of the week. Gary, do you think that you had any better shots this week that you could have one up those? I swear to God. Yeah.
Do you really?
I mean, like I swear to God, like Sandy Pines was like God said, Gary, here is the best golf weekend of your life striking the ball. Wait, was that two weeks ago?
Maybe
doesn’t count. Too bad. Ah, none of those shots matter anymore. No, I’m just kidding.
And then this week, I’ve only had two.
Two?
Yeah.
Uh, when was the last time anybody hauled out from the fairway? Yeah, I did it uh two days ago. Number 12, Green Garden Gold, and I eagled it for the like sixth time.
I have not done that yet.
Hold out from the fairway. It was 40 yards
or from anywhere? No,
I I went golfing this past weekend with the fam.
Yeah.
I couldn’t tell you how many up and downs I had, but they were for triple and double bogeies, but they were up and downs. Chip and then one putt. Up, down, left, right.
Start select. Were you like 20 ft away and they’re like, “Stop the bleeding.” That’s good. No, no, we didn’t play any gimmies. We puted everything out.
So, you held up the entire course. No, I’m just kidding. No, we were pretty fast.
I just got to give you crap because I love you.
Paige Sporanic back in the news. Hey now.
And I think she I quite frankly think she should stay there in the news. I she is, you know, very newsworthy, if you know what I mean.
Uh she sent out a tweet that’s getting a lot of attention. I mean, people can’t quit staring at this tweet, if you know what I mean. Eyes are locked in on this Twitter if you if you know what I mean. Um I feel like her ex has three of them, you know what I mean? XXX. Sorry, terrible joke. I’m moving on. She says these words, “I play better when I wear less clothes.” Anybody do we do we support this decision?
I play better with a Brolo.
Nice.
Do you think it’s mental for her?
Uh, you know, no, I think it’s more financial. Yeah, I agree.
Um, I I mean, here’s the thing. When she when she puts a statement out like this, it gets some attention for two very specific reasons. One of which being she has a large following.
Oh my god.
And the other of which being she’s a a an in very influential in the golf community. Um so for those reasons, people tend to notice when she she makes a statement like this. I here’s what I would credit it to. Some people like the pressure. Some people want those. For me, if I’m playing through a tusome, I’m having a panic attack. Maybe she likes Maybe she likes to have all of the eyes on her and she plays better under the pressure. So, I don’t know. Maybe there’s something there. I’m trying to be really careful here, you know. See, Gary, see how I’m doing this? See how I’m beating around the bush? That’s again, we’re not going to we’re not going to go deep into that one either. Um I don’t Rich, help me out here. Not a chance.
He said like seven. I’m I’m going to play on my phone for a little bit.
So, did you guys ever see the video with her and it was a I think she was doing a Grant or not Grant. Uh Garrett video uh whatever his channel’s name is.
Good. Good.
No, the his own thing.
Oh,
Garrett Clark. Whatever.
GM GM. It was him versus someone else and it was Bob and Paige and the camera died and the angle that they had at the camera and Bob was like, “I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it.”
There was so many moments where he was just speechless. He’s just like, “I” Or she would talk and he’s never lost for words.
Never. He’s got 20 to say always. Or she would say something and he’s like over laughing like way over laughing.
She praised him for She praised him for his eye contact. You just dialed dialed sweats coming down the one piece.
Just keep looking.
Did you notice the second time around they did something? He was in sunglasses. He
He’s just walking around like this the entire day and right at the nose. Uh Paige Brandic, we support this. We want you to be as comfortable as you’d like to be when you’re golfing.
Good statement.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um and keep doing your thing.
Yeah. You too, G. Stay classy. People don’t realize that she’s got so much knowledge of golf.
She’s got a ton of knowledge.
Yeah.
Yeah. And she does. She’s She played through college.
I mean,
she played with Windham Clark, didn’t she?
Yeah.
Cut it up.
I’m sure she did.
No. God.
All right. We got to move on.
We got to get out of here. Get out of this segment while we still have a show. Jeez.
I don’t know. I I don’t even Sorry, I golf for that whole entire segment. [ __ ] You know, like the censored beep that’s going to be going off for like 3 minutes straight like the whole Nobody can hear us. We’re just laughing and doing these hand gestures. Whatever. Uh
I don’t know about liar. Liar. Liar. Liar.
Everybody’s been so nice to me here. Well, that’s because uh
I mean I want to I mean
Yeah. All right, guys. I don’t know. I think that’s all I got.
This is a great show. Yeah,
this is a great show and it’s a great time. It’s a great time to be alive.
I love you. It was fun.
Thanks, Gary.
Dude, thanks for loving me.
I always love dude.
I love that you love me.
I love you so hard.
I love you for loving me so hard. But I’m loving you, too.
With his tan, he’s glowing.
Oh, yes.
Don’t you just get back from Punaana? My god, look at you.
I feel pasty over here.
Spending some good time on the boat, that’s for sure.
You know, for how sunburned I was, it’s not that bad.
It’s really not.
No. But Rich’s tan is good. I don’t get it, dude. I went I went golfing with the Alabama and I put sunscreen on and stayed in the sun. Still nothing.
Wait, if you put sunscreen on, then that would be why. Yeah, I could still get a little crispy. Rich, how much sunscreen did you wear? Zero.
Uh, I wore zero.
Me, too.
Yeah. But do you do like the um the Zach Morris um you know, zinc oxide on the nose?
I don’t. My I don’t have My nose doesn’t really burn usually.
Yeah. So cuz cuz if I if it is starting to get bad, I just put a hat on. So then that that kind of blocks it.
I also always have one of those like nice moisture wicking long sleeve shirts.
Oo.
So I’ll I’ll like the pro fisherman shirt.
Yeah, but the better the Well, pro fisherman shirts are good, but like
Yeah, you don’t have like the Bassmaster classic 2004
hook, you know? I I get made fun of for putting sunscreen on the back of my neck. I believe it
because I have that my hair so long. Yeah.
So why do you do it? You got all like gummed up tie
just in case just in case the wind blows it forward.
Oh my god.
Hey man, I’m out of here.
H Thank god.
Guys, Gary’s in a hurry. We got to we got to wrap this up here.
I’m never in a hurry. I will sit here till 5:00 at night. Gary’s never not in a hurry. Well, no, because you you got you know it’s you like to get stuff done.
You’re a busy young man.
Yeah. Yeah. your um your your kale your day planner like your little thing you know whatever
I’m gonna get you rich
that’s it all right while Gary’s getting rich I’m gonna wrap up the show and that is it for this week’s edition of the Dan’s Golf World Show brought to you by the one and only Sports Illustrated Bingo Oh, [Music]
