The cut rule is low 65 and ties advance and there were exactly 65 who made the cut, which came in at 5 under. There were 28 golfers who finished at 5 under, notably:

4 PGA Tour winners this season are likely to miss John Deere cut
Joe Highsmith, Karl Vilips, Garrick Higgo and Ben Griffin, all PGA Tour winners in 2025, are poised to be headed home early at the John Deere Classic. The projected cut line on the PGA Tour’s website is now at 4 under, while Datagolf gives that about an 18 percent chance of being the number. Datagolf is projecting 81 percent to be 5 under. Either way, those notables are on the wrong side of the line.

Jason Day shoots 66, but not enough after first-round 74
“The pilot’s got the fuel in the jet, ready to go,” said the announcer on the PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ feed just before Jason Day tapped in on the ninth hole, his last of the day, for a 66. A nice round, to be sure, but not enough to overcome his first-round 74. Day finished his 36 holes, well outside the projected cutline.

Projected cut is looking like 5 under
As the second round gets close to the midway point, Datagolf’s math shows 5 under getting a 72 percent chance of being the cut. That’s what it was a year ago. Bear in mind the afternoon has not fully started yet so there’s tons of golf shots to be made. But 5 under is the heavy favorite as of 12:57 p.m. ET.

Projected cut is 3 under… for now
The PGA Tour’s official leaderboard, as of 10:45 a.m. ET, shows the projected cut to be 3 under. Datagolf is giving 4 under a 47 percent chance of being the cut with 5 under getting a nearly 42 percent chance. Some names at 2 under or higher:
What is the cut rule for the 2025 John Deere Classic?
Like the rest of the PGA Tour events, the John Deere has a cut to the low 65 golfers and ties after 36 holes. The tournament started with 156 golfers. A year ago, the cut came in at 5 under. There’s a lot of golf to go but after 18 holes, there were 84 golfers at 2 under after 18 holes. Datagolf, as of Thursday, gives 4 under a 39 percent chance to be the cutline come Friday evening.

Local favorite Zach Johnson (2 under) as well as Luke Clanton (1 under), Kevin Kisner (even), amateur Jackson Koivun (even), Tom Kim (1 over), Lucas Glover (1 over) and Jason Day (3 over) are some names to monitor throughout the day Friday.
