The 2025 John Deere Classic is in full swing in Silvis, Illinois. The par-71 course at TPC Deere Run is playing 7,289 yards this week and the tournament includes a purse of $8.4 million.

Doug Ghim jumped on the course early Thursday, posting a 62 to take a one-shot lead after 18 holes. Max Homa and Austin Eckroat were a shot back. For Homa, his 63 is his best first-round score on the PGA Tour.

Those two keep the pedal down Friday, with Ghim holding the outright lead and Homa not far behind.

Doug Ghim is among the many possible first-time winners in contention through two rounds. Ghim has five hole-outs this week, two for eagle, and is at 12 under. He might have been tied for the lead but a Max Homa bogey on the 18th gives Ghim the solo lead. Homa is in a group of five golfers tied for second at 11 under.

“I’m not afraid to look at leaderboards. At the same time, I’m really only focused on myself. I think looking at the leaderboard is just information to me of knowing, okay, there are guys, there are scores to be had,” Ghim said Friday evening. “Being in the lead this early in the tournament doesn’t really mean that much. Obviously having a lead is awesome at any point in the tournament, but with 36 holes left to play and that many people at 11-under par, I mean, doesn’t feel like much of a lead.”

Ghim indicated he may have to double up his number to have a chance to win.

“If anything, I feel like I’m chasing to try to get to 20-, 22-under par, even deeper if possible,” he said.

The PGA Tour has announced:

Due to potential thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, the third round of the John Deere Classic will feature threesomes off split tees from approximately 7:45-10 a.m. local time.

That’s 8:45 a.m.-11 a.m. ET, so plan accordingly.

Homa is keeping it going. A day after firing a 63, Homa is four under through 11 and has gotten it to 12 under, a shot off the lead of Doug Ghim.

Homa is playing again with Rickie Fowler, and this group has a large following on a hot day at TPC Deere Run.

The winner of the 2025 Mexico Open earlier this season is making a bid for a second PGA Tour win. Brian Campbell followed up his first round 65 with a second-round 66 and is sitting at 11, tied for the clubhouse lead with Davis Thompson.

Meanwhile, here comes first-round leader Doug Ghim. Even through, his first five holes, Ghim one-hopped for eagle on the par-4 15th (he started on the back nine) for eagle. He’s also at 11 under and he’s got quite a bit of golf to play still.

Thompson fired a second-round 63 and is at 11 under, tied for the 36 hole, clubhouse lead alongside Brian Campbell, who shot 66 on Friday. Camilo Villegas also shot 66 and he’s at 10 under.

Camilo Villegas has made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 and has six birdies overall with no bogeys on his card so far and he’s at 11 under and in the lead.

Nicholas Lindheim withdrew from the John Deere Classic before his second round with a back injury. He shot 75 on Thursday. A couple hours later, Andrew Novak WD’d with a back injury. He posted a first-round 71.
