The tension is deeper than just missed doubles and lost matches. Here’s what went down between the past and the present…

luke Littleler has just clapped back at twotime world champ Dennis Priestley and not quietly after Priestley questioned whether Litler truly earned his MBE a storm brewed online and Litler didn’t stay silent the tension is deeper than just missed doubles and lost matches here’s what went down between the past and the present just hours after it was announced that Luke Litler and Luke Humphre would be honored in the King’s birthday honors list their World Cup dreams were crushed in a shock quarterfinal loss to Germany the timing couldn’t have been worse and Dennis Priestley made sure to point it out the 74year-old darts legend didn’t hold back in a cutting critique Priestley accused the duo of having let their country down and questioned whether they truly deserve the MBE recognition but Littleler wasn’t having it in a now deleted Instagram story the 17-year-old prodigy hit back with fire done more in 12 months than most do in a lifetime he wrote an unmistakable dig at the Dart’s elder it was raw emotional and very very public though the post was later taken down the message had already made waves fans were divided some defending the teen’s rise others echoing Priestley’s view that respect is earned over time not overnight to his credit Priestley did offer some advice to Littleler going forward but the damage was already done and the lines had been drawn the tension only escalated when Dennis Priestley known for his nononsense Yorkshire bluntness doubled down in an interview with OLGB he said point blank that neither Litler nor Humphre had done enough to earn their MBEs just yet reflecting on his days alongside Phil Taylor Priestley added “We practiced together sat together played all over the world and I only remember us getting beaten once.” He acknowledged Little’s role in raising the sport’s popularity but implied the recognition had come too early if he’s getting an MBE this soon Priestly quipped “You’d have to think he’s on the path to a nighthood.” That’s when Luke Litler the nuke struck back again the 18-year-old PDC world champ didn’t need many words just a screenshot of the article and a dagger of a caption “Don’t deserve an MBE but done more in 12 months than he ever did.” That’s what I would say anyway littleler had ended his now deleted jab a parting shot with the confidence of a world champion and the impulsiveness of an 18-year-old still learning how loud his voice really is but make no mistake the nuke has become the face of modern darts since his explosive rise in December 2023 his Instagram following has soared past 1.9 million and now he’s front and center in both the sports world and fast food aisles littleler recently teamed up with McDonald’s to promote their new Big Arch burger one of the headliners of their summer menu launch still the fame the honors and the burger deals aren’t impressing everyone priestley while critical didn’t close the door entirely he warned that Little’s team must shield him from distractions and ensure he’s getting solid guidance he is still so young Priestley reminded perhaps the most important truth in this whole saga priestley’s words cut through the noise as someone who’s seen what fame can give and what it can quietly take away it’s not about how much money you earn now it’s about how much you’ve kept when your career comes to an end in a sport that’s never been more commercial his warning lands heavy little may be the face of darts today with mega deals burger endorsements and front page coverage but it’s the grind that will define his future he has his head screwed on Priestley admitted before adding the part that really matters the important thing is that the darts remains the priority because when the cameras fade and the sponsorships dry up it won’t be the money or media moments that matter for all the criticism swirling around Luke Littleler’s MBE and his rise to stardom the numbers don’t lie and neither does the trophy cabinet dennis Priestley is a legend no doubt he made history by becoming the first man to win both the BDO and PDC World Championships his legacy helped lay the groundwork for the sports modern era but when it comes to raw achievements Litler has already begun to eclipse him and he’s only 18 in just the last 12 months Litler has racked up grand Slam of Darts November 2024 pdc World Championship January 2025 uk Open March 2025 that’s three major titles in a single season equal to Priestley’s entire major tally across a 25-year career add in the Premier League and World Series finals and Littlesters Hall since 2024 grows to five majors in total he’s claimed 54 titles with nine of those coming from major PDC tournaments or tours by contrast Priestley’s career title count stands at 47 that stat alone gives Littleer something few rookies have bragging rights over a legend the backlash to Dennis Priestley’s comments hasn’t just come from one young star it’s now a united front luke Humphre has joined Luke Litler in publicly criticizing Priestley’s remarks marking a rare generational standoff in the darts community priestley’s assertion that the duo let their country down and didn’t act like a team clearly struck a nerve while Littleitler fired off a fiery now deleted Instagram story Humphre took a more measured but equally pointed route disappointing to hear a top former pro who I admired say such a damaging thing to me and Luke humphre posted on X and with a subtle but firm clapback he added “I didn’t let my country down last year the did I?” referring of course to his World Cup win in 2024 a not so gentle reminder that his track record already includes delivering for England still Humphre’s made it clear he doesn’t intend to let the drama linger one bad game for us and we will be back next year to go again let’s move on now it’s a call for calm but also a quiet statement of intent before completely putting the incident behind him Luke Humphre found himself locked in a few heated exchanges beneath his original post it was proof that despite calling to move on the sting from Priestley’s comments hadn’t fully worn off when one commenter challenged him with “You didn’t look like a team though did you?” Humphre didn’t let it slide who says you he fired back if we would have won everyone would have been saying how great of a team we looked because we lost everyone saying we didn’t look like a team i can assure you we were very up for it and felt great as a team it just didn’t happen for us his response captured the emotion of the moment frustration defiance and the reality of a sport where narratives shift with every win or loss and just when the storm looked like it might quiet down the waves only got bigger luke Litler isn’t just battling critics from the past now he’s hearing it from his peers too despite this meteoric rise he’s faced a chorus of booze in Germany all season long from Berlin in March to Munich in April the crowd has made their stance loud and clear so much so that Little’s even threatened to boycott future events in the country and now even Gerwin Price has joined the chorus of criticism after England’s early World Cup exit an 8-4 loss to Germany’s Schindler and Petreko price didn’t hold back they didn’t turn up together didn’t sit together didn’t play as a team and it showed he never named name names he didn’t have to you need that team ethic they didn’t have it they were rubbish it was a blunt echo of Dennis Priestley’s earlier critique that fame may have come too fast and unity was left behind even so Priestley admitted something crucial littleer has raised the popularity of darts that’s great but he can still do so much more and maybe that’s what makes this all sting so much and just as the dust began to settle from Dennis Priestley’s scathing comments Luke Littleler found himself under fire again this time from another veteran voice Neil Duff duff the 2022 WDF world champion from Northern Ireland weighed in on Littleler’s performance and demeanor following England’s early exit from the World Cup of darts but if he expected silence in return he clearly misread the nuke after enduring a week of scrutiny Little didn’t hold back when Duff decided to add fuel to the fire in a now widely circulated post from Saturday night Little snapped back with precision win something meaningful then pipe down one more in 12 months than you will in your career it was a direct hit delivered with the same ruthless accuracy he shows on the oy the comment followed Duff’s suggestion that Litler despite his talent had let his country down and wasn’t showing the right commitment at the World Cup luke Litler may be the youngest star in dots but he’s proving he can play the game off the oy just as sharply as he does on it after firing back at Dennis Priestley’s scathing remarks earlier in the week Litler turned his sights to Neil Duff who had taken a thinly veiled jab at England following their surprise World Cup defeat duff clearly enjoying the upset posted a cheeky “How’s England doing?” on Facebook shortly after the English pair little and Humphre were knocked out by Germany’s Martin Schindler and Ricardo Petresko it didn’t take long for Litler to return the favor when Duff crashed out of the Moda Super Series with a 4-1 loss to Martin Thomas littleer pounced on Instagram stories he posted a screenshot of Thomas landing the match-winning dart complete with a brutal caption “How’s Neil Duff doing no names needed.” The message was crystal clear it was petty pointed and perfectly timed and in the growing list of online spats between Dart’s rising generation and its old guard this one added fuel to the fire some fans are cheering Little’s willingness to stand his ground while others argue the 18-year-old should tune out the noise and let his darts do the talking after a turbulent week off the oy filled with headlines jabs and social media spats Luke Litler now turns his full attention back to competition as the 2025 US Darts Masters takes center stage in New York City the tournament part of the World Series of Darts will be held at the theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday June 27th and Saturday June 28th it marks the seventh edition of the event and the fourth stop on this year’s global tour littleer enters the tournament alongside some of the biggest names in the sport including world number one Luke Humphre two-time US Darts Masters champion Michael Van Goen and reigning title holder Rob Cross despite his off-stage controversy involving a 5-year ban due to an unpaid £450,000 tax bill Cross will be defending his crown having won the Dutch Masters earlier this year also competing are Steven Bunting who claimed victories at the Bahrain and Nordic Masters this season Gerwin Price Damon Heta and Nathan Aspenol rounding out a stacked group of PDC representatives the tournament will be played in a traditional leg play format with the first round and quarterfinals contested over the best of 11 legs the semi-finals over the best of 13 and the final played as a best of 15 showdown matches will begin at midnight UK time on both nights the event broadcast live on ITV4 offers a total prize fund of £100,000 up from £60,000 last year with £30,000 going to the winner £16,000 to the runner up and £1,750 for those who fall at the first hurdle this weekend Littleer will be playing for a narrative after a week of defending his name online a dominant showing in New York would send a louder message than any Instagram story ever could so what do you think did Luke Litler go too far with his clapbacks or was it time someone pushed back on the old guard drop your thoughts in the comments like if you’re backing Litler and subscribe for more darts Luke Littler is an arrogant pric,. I want to see one of the players put him in his place, on his ass on the floor.
