This document is a transcript of a discussion between Sleepy J and Dave Essler analyzing their picks for first round leaders at the John Deere Classic. They offer three picks each, focusing on form, odds, past performance, course fit, and motivational factors. Each quote and analysis is structured by timestamp and speaker.

🏁 Conclusion (Resumen)
Dave Essler highlighted three primary picks: Keith Mitchell (60-1), Jake Knapp (50-1), and hinted at broader discussions such as Tiger Woods’ odds. Mitchell stands out as the top par-4 scorer and Knapp’s putting and motivation add appeal. Sleepy J offered Denny McCarthy (45-1) as his sole choice, citing consistent course history and strong scoring trends. All selections are justified based on tee times, scoring statistics, current form, and situational motivation.

🕰 Tee time advantage: All selections noted early morning tee times, ideal for calm conditions.

🔥 Form momentum for Knapp: Fresh off a strong performance, Knapp is in peak form.

🔢 FedEx Cup stakes: Knapp is 54th, looking to crack top 30, while McCarthy is pushing late-season gains.

🏌️ Underrated field: Analysts agree this is one of the weakest fields recently, opening opportunity for underdogs.

🎲 Generous odds: Picks had favorable betting odds: Mitchell (60-1), Knapp (50-1), McCarthy (45-1).

🏆 Putting strength: Knapp is called “elite” on the greens, a major edge.

👀 Tiger Woods’ listing: Brief mention of Tiger at 200-1 for the British Open, showing market trends.

📘 Summary (Resumen)
[Dave Essler | 0:08 – 1:32]
Dave opens with Keith Mitchell as a core pick due to his status as the leading par-4 scorer on tour. On shorter courses like this one, that edge is emphasized. He notes Mitchell’s early tee time and exceptional value at 60-1, calling it “crazy” considering his fast-start history. Dave supports this with course structure insights: while par 5s are scoring opportunities, par 4 performance is a sustainable advantage.

[Dave Essler | 0:08 – 1:32]
Next, Dave highlights Jake Knapp, citing his 50-1 odds, recent form, and his ability to go very low. Despite a weak off-the-tee game, Knapp is described as an elite putter. With current FedEx Cup standing at 54th and no British Open invite, Knapp has strong motivation to perform. Dave views this as a high-upside scenario, minimizing the risk of his tee issues on this setup.

[Sleepy J | 1:33 – 2:50]
Sleepy J presents Denny McCarthy at 45-1 as his only pick. He emphasizes McCarthy’s consistency in first-round scoring (top 30) and prior success at John Deere—placing 6th, 6th, and 7th with three career rounds of 64 at this course. An early tee time and having taken the prior week off also contribute to a positive outlook. He estimates a winning score for round one between 62-64, within McCarthy’s range.

Now, let’s go. Let’s jump into those first round leaders there, Uncle Dave. Now, I have one. I’m gonna let you go ahead and lead out first round leaders this week. What are you looking at? Well, I have three that I’m going to be invested in and two of them I think will be no surprise to anybody. I mean, you know, I’m going to take Keith Mitchell, especially in this field. And honestly, I can’t believe that with his propensity for good early starts, 60 to1. I mean, that’s that’s just crazy. And you know, we know these shorter courses lots of times par five scoring is is what it is and there’ll be people taking advantage of those, but there’s still 60 par4 holes to be played over four days. And Mitchell’s the leading par4 scorer on tour and he does have an early tea time, you know, as does my second bet. Uh this is a guy I don’t use much, but Jake Knap at 50 to1. I mean, clearly he’s in good form after last week and we know how low he can go. I mean, he he’s gone super low and he would love another top finish even after last week because he’s still 54th in the FedEx Cup standings. I mean, that’s that’s not horrible, but you want to be in the top 30. And he’s absolutely an elite putter. His demise has been off the tea, which, you know, I said earlier, and I’m all but ignoring that here. Uh, and he’s also not in the open, the British Open, whatever you want to call it. So he’s got times of motivation and you know as I was looking at see if he was in the British Open yet. Sleepy I did see Tiger was listed at 200 to one with no make or miss yet. So you know that’s a conversation we’ll have very shortly my friend. So there’s Uncle Dave’s first round leaders. I have one lick I mentioned there Uncle Dave and you didn’t mention this guy. I’m going with Denny McCarthy at 45 to1. Uh I’m with you with the whole Keith Mitchell being 60 to1. Uh we are getting some pretty good odds, I think, on some of the guys that that’ll probably be there, you know, near the end of the first day. McCarthy’s been a very solid first round scorer. He sits right now top 30 in first round scoring. Took last week off, so the guy should be certainly fresh. I mean, he’s going to be ready to make a big push there, you know, in the FedEx Cup as we uh move down the stretch here a little bit. This field is one of the weakest and I think you’d probably agree there, Uncle Dave, that that we’ve seen in in quite some time. And you know, McCarthy has been excellent at this course. The last three years, sixth, sixth, and seventh, he’s gone low here at this course. He’s fired three separate 64s on this course. I don’t know if 64 will get it done for a first round score. I think it’ll be pretty damn close. Maybe a 62, 63, 64, somewhere in that area. But, uh, he’s he’s shown that he can go low here. He has an early morning tea time, which I like. So, I’m going to go ahead and just just give out Denny McCarthy at 45 to1. My one and only. I I think everything there lines up for him to probably have a good strong first day. So there’s our first round leaders.
